The 28-year-old Skaggs passed away earlier today after being taken to the hospital due to complications relating to his battle with brain cancer. ?It is always disheartening to lose a member of the Arena Football family but even more so when that member is taken from us at such a young age,? said Commissioner David Baker. ?Justin Skaggs was a true Ironman, who played on each side of the ball with equal passion and veracity. Everyone in the Arena Football family extends their most sincere condolences to Justin?s family and the Blaze.? Skaggs was in his third season with the Arena Football League and his second as a member of the Utah Blaze. ?Our thoughts and prayers are with the Skaggs family at this difficult time,? said Blaze owner John Garff. ?Justin will forever be a member of this team and a member of the Blaze family, and he will be deeply missed by all. The Salt Lake City and Blaze communities have lost a great man, a dedicated teammate, and a loving husband and father.? Skaggs is survived by his wife, Tara, and two children, Jake (5) and Abbie (3). A true Ironman, Skaggs had 21 receptions, 196 yards, four touchdowns and 25.5 tackles for the Blaze this season. For his career, he had accumulated 106 receptions, 1,226 yards and 20 touchdowns on offense and 91.0 tackles, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries on defense. A memorial service will be held at EnergySolutions Arena on Monday, June 18th at 10 a.m. in the International Room.
