...ya'll think it'd be a good idea to trade Mash for a younger guy? Mash is a cornerstone but ya gotta think with all the other youngstas on the team that Nawlins would wanna get someone a little younger with room to grow.. nuttin' but love for Mash tho'..he been holdin it down for near a decade...

He'll last for awhile and when he's back from the injury they should try to get the most offense out of him before he expires.
I wouldn't trade Jamal. Where is your sense of loyalty?? He has been doing his thing and more for the hornets than anyone else. Now that Baron Davis is playing out of his mind he becomes expendable? For the past few seasons he has been the mvp and co leader of the hornets, you can't trade that away his leadership for anything even though he has been oft-injured. When Mash comes back Charlotte will have a close to championship quality team, they already have a good chance to win the East because of their inside presence in Magloire and Brown. Bringing Mash back will give them another shooter to aim for when people converge down low.

Why not trade him and get something of value while they still can?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting CourtVision:</div><div class="quote_post">When Mash comes back Charlotte will have a close to championship quality team, </div> I agree with your sentiments, but you mean New Orleans, not Charlotte. Black Widow - I wouldn't trade Mash, but the idea has crossed my mind now that Baron has really stepped it up. The problem is that it would be hard to get a player of his caliber who is significantly younger. There are such players, but their current teams wouldn't want to part with them necessarily. One team that might consider it is the Clips. If they trade Corey Maggette, they'd get a veteran like Mash who's seen the playoffs, and the Hornets would get that youth. Guys like Baron and Magloire are pretty much veterans already with all their experience, and they would still have Wesley and Brown for longtime vet experience. In the end, I think Nawlins will see how they do in the West first. Brown has been known for his defense and rebounding, but facing guys like Duncan, KG, Randolph, Malone, Kirilenko, Webber, Brand and Gasol night after night will be much different than facing the McDyess/Marshall/Williams/Foster types that he sees in the East. They may try to go younger and upgrade at the 4 spot, or let David West mature and improve at the 2 spot. It depends, but i doubt Mash will be their biggest concern. He still has 4-5 years left of solid contribution. not all-star level, but good enough.
Personally, I wish to see Jamal gone. baron Davis is just playing too good now that Mash is out and any GM would love to see their star player play like BD is now. When mash returns, Baron will probably return to his old form and as a basketball fan, I'd hate that.
Do you really think he'd go back to 18 and 8(which isn't bad, especially if you have another guy avging 20+)? I don't, just because Mash will be rusty, and will differ to Baron more than he ever has before. I have a feeling that Mash will slowly become a second option rather than a first option, and that his return will allow Baron to score just as much if not more with more ball movement: Mash is a great ball handler, and could conceivably become more of a point forward and set Baron up for more scoring options, as he did with Wesley when Baron was hurt last year. I think a scoring point and a point forward mesh very well together, and these two have been teammates going on four years.
I think slowly but surely Mash will be pushed to early retirement because of his injuries and age. I think that by next season, Mash and Wesley will all be just guest co-hosts on the "Baron Davis show" each and every game.

I'd go so far as to say that they're already guest co-hosts, at least when Mash is in town. But even as he gets older, Mash will be a solid contributing role player, and I don't see him going under 14-12 ppg for the next 3 or 4 seasons. Baron will be the star, and these other guys will be his supporting cast. I have a feeling someone like P.J. Brown will be the first to lose his starting spot, rather than Mash or Wesley. And as Jamaal Magloire matures, he'll take shots that were once Mash's or Wesley's.
Trading Mash wouldn't be very smart. Mash is a great veteran player and has a great all around game (scoring, passing, rebounding, etc). I don't think injuries will be slowing down Mashburn a bit. Baron Davis's re-emergence won't be slowing down Mash. Once Mashburn returns, New Orleans will finally have a great post up presence this season who can also knock down the outside shot. He is also a very streaky shooter (remember last season he scored 50 points in a game). Any player who can get you that many points isn't going to slow down that quickly. I don't think Baron will slow down either once Mash returns. This also may be a different Hornet's team. Remember it had been Paul Silas's team, but now it's Tim Floyd's. And with Floyd's style of offense, once Mash returns, look for the Hornets to be blowing out a bunch of Eastern conference teams. About PJ most likely being first to lose his starting spot... I really doubt that. No one else on the Hornets can equal PJ's rebounding and defensive intensity. I believe as long as PJ's a Hornet, he will be a starter. To me it seems like PJ would be less effective coming off the bench. I think New Orleans needs to upgrade their SG position in this year's draft. Wesley is undersized for his position (especially in the West) and I could see him becoming a good bench player in the latter part of his career.
Why trade Jamal? They're heading to the West next season, and the West is dominated by strong Forward positions. If they traded Mash, unless they're getting someone really good in return, they've have a much tougher time dealing with the likes of Carmelo, Duncan, KG, Malone, Brand, et cetera. They need Mash there.

He works hard and should be kept for some support use like Webber will do if they decide to keep Miller as a starter for awhile.

He's been really productive in the few minutes he gets, and his defense is decent, and getting better. P.J. has shown in the past that he can be a very strong bench player, in New Jersey and even in Charlotte, when he played behind Derrick Coleman for a while. Of course, he's earned his starting role, but if West outplays him for it in 2 or 3 years, don't be surprised if P.J. comes off the bench for the last few years of his contract. As for Wesley, he's shown doubters what he can do. Young, bigger two guards like Eddie Robinson and Courtney Alexander have learned the hard way that it isn't easy to better Wesley, and he shows opposing guards that every night, no matter how big they are. And even in the west, having a small guard lineup can work, as shown by Dallas last year and Houston this year. Even Sacto occasionally goes with Bibby and Bobby together.
I'd like to see them try to get rid of him before the trade deadline. Yes, he is a great player to have around and helps the team a lot, but he is getting up in age and injuries are holding him back. We need to get someone who is younger and has no past injuries that are very serious. We need our players to play. We don't need a useful player sitting on the bench for half the season like Mash has so far.

In order to get younger and injury free, you've gotta give something up, and for the Hornets it just isn't worth it, for what they'd get in return.
