A Virginia sports agent has been arrested and jailed in Tuscaloosa in a 5-year-old case involving former Alabama football star Tyrone Prothro.

Alabama Assistant Attorney General Don Valeska said Raymond Savage Jr. was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Wednesday for violating the state's agent laws five years ago.

A judge issued a warrant for Savage's arrest in October after the agent failed to appear to answer a reduced charge of initiating contact with Prothro while he was playing for the Crimson Tide. Savage later said he couldn't travel for health reasons.

He allegedly sent an employee to visit the wide receiver while Prothro was in the hospital recovering from a leg fracture that ended his playing career in 2005.

Savage, who has called the incident "a huge misunderstanding," had agreed to plead to a misdemeanor with a $2,000 fine that would have restricted him from traveling into Alabama and dealing with any athletes from the state.
