Until it mutates and is rendered ineffective... better option... keep your stuff in your pants and use protection
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV_vaccine#Clinical_trials_to_date First time Gallo's vaccine goes into humans, not the first HIV vaccine to enter Phase 1. See the list in the link. http://www.niaid.nih.gov/topics/hivaids/research/vaccines/Pages/history.aspx Here is a historical timeline. The U of M study is also known as "full length single chain". As with any govt touting SCIENCE, I caution the reader to follow the $$$$$. http://www.profectusbiosciences.net/pipeline/additionalprophylactic.html
I hate sounding cynical, but I've been involved in science for 25 years on both the academic and corporate side. It takes exceptional discipline to alleviate the influence money has on decision making. You can't eliminate it as some is very necessary, especially in terms of managing costs and budgets, etc. But in this case Gallo ( played by Alan Alda in "And the band played on") is a class A prick. He's a co-founder of Protected Bioscience and will profit handily if this vaccine trial goes well. Govt funded research gets spun out to a start-up, academic inventors get to set their own licensing terms (yes, I shit you not) so that when these projects score...the scientists get millions and the govt gets zero return on investment. So why does the state govt partake in the hype and selling....because success means more grant money comes there way (winning has perks) and that's free federal money that Maryland gets to take 90-100% off the top. And this my friends is how the shell game of biotech start ups in played.
