With March Madness upon us, the NBA is cracking down on loose-lipped team executives who can't help but talk about -- or to the families of -- Greg Oden or Kevin Durant, the likely top picks in this year's draft.

According to a memo dispersed to all GMs and team counsel Friday by NBA general counsel Rick Buchanan, three teams were fined a total of $60,000:

The Boston Celtics were fined $30,000 as a result of contact that took place between executive director Danny Ainge and Durant's family members at a Big 12 tournament game on March 10.

he didn't even know that he was sitting next Durant's mother until the reporters came up to her. That's crazy.

Like, what, is it the player's choice of what team drafts him? I swear, the league needs to have a little more wiggle room in their guidelines and whatnot, because its just not gonna fly when something like this starts happening repeatedly. Its like, what is it a secret that kevin durant or Greg Oden are going to be the #1/2 pick. Like talking to his mom gives any kind of C or Durant edge. :duno:

Why can't he talk to his family?

I remember Isiah talked to Frye's whole family in Arizona around the draft time.

funny that this comes up, because I was just thinking of all the NBA teams (particulary Boston and Memphis) that are probably keeping an eye on Durant more than their own current players...

I suppose they did this, because they're afraid that he may have been trying to convince his parents to let Durant declare this year.

Swat came to my house, David Stern disrespected my family

Stern needs to give it a rest here. Talking? I know there are NCAA rules about teams and players talking, and those are fine. But some kid's mom talking to one of 32 NBA general managers? Chill, David.

To be consistent, Danny Ainge should also be fined everytime he talks to his son.

That's exactly it. The same rule has been in place for years, so you can't fault the NBA for enforcing it.

And if you guys believe Danny's BS about not knowing who he was talking to, then you're pretty naive.
