<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">One other name came up today, and it shocked me. But here it goes: Danny Ainge.

The story I heard from a trusted source is that there has been, on some level, some friction between Ainge and the Celtics' ownership.

I called Boston's Vice President of Media Services Jeff Twiss, to give him a chance to address the rumor that Ainge might be having trouble with the ownership, and therefore might be considering leaving to coach the Kings. His response could not have been more clear:
<div style="padding-left: 20px;">"No. No. No. That's totally ridiculous. The first part isn't true, and that means the second part can't be true either."</div>What's more, on April 27th <font color="#0000ff">Steve Bulpett published a fantastic article in the Boston Herald</font> in Celtics' ownership remarked on all of the key figures in the organization. They uniformly raved about Danny Ainge.

So, maybe this is all just one of the dreadful rumors that circulate through the NBA constantly. If that's so, I hate to starting another one. But if does turn out to have some merit, I'll feel ridiculous that I didn't mention it sooner, because my source believes in this.

Danny Ainge's background makes this at least somewhat plausible. He has a lot of fire. It sometimes rubs some people the wrong way. And if this were to happen, it wouldn't be the first time he had shocked everyone with a resignation. On December 13, 1999, while coaching one of the better teams in the NBA, Ainge dropped a bomb by announcing his resignation. <font color="#0000ff">The Suns' website documents the occasion</font>.
<div style="padding-left: 20px;">Ainge, appointed head coach on Nov. 15, 1996 when he took over for Cotton Fitzsimmons, had a 136-90 (.602) record. Through 20 games this season the Suns are 13-7 and have the seventh best record in the NBA.</div>Ainge is a former King, and presumably has some connections there.</div>

danny ainge is a great drafter but if he quits and we end up with someone who can really develop the talent and make SMART trades and personal, coaching and salary cap decisions then you wouldnt see me crying at the loss of danny ainge! weve gotten as much as were gonna get out of the draft for now! unless the celts totally TANK one of the next couple seasons i dont see them lucking out on any more mid-lower first/second round picks like the appear to have w/ delonte, perk, green, gomes and (maybe) jefferson again in the near future

that said, i dont really expect danny ainge will defect for sacramento and i dont think its necessary such a bad thing that he stays in boston

I doubt it's true, anyway. If Ainge wanted to coach, wouldn't he take over as the Celtics coach? I mean, this is his team...the one that he, himself put together, so why would he want to go work under Geoff Petrie instead?

I have to agree with Ainge...

    NO NO NO NO NO!

Ainge was a good player in his day... but I dont wanna see him coaching Sac.

And pretty much the only connections that he really might have any more would be Jerry Reynolds who is now the color analyst/front office personnel for the Kings. I cant really think of too many folks that are still around from that era with the Kings.

well, with ron artest, the kings look like a whole new team. they definitely have a better roster than the celtics, no offense or anything, and are only a couple players away from contending IMO. they have a good starting five, and have pretty good depth. they are just missing some key players. with that said, danny may think that with his experience as a player, he can take the kings to the next level, rather than waiting year after year after year, waiting for his youngster to develop in boston. thats my theory.

sure but like thrilla said, this celtics team is Ainges creation. the owners have given no indication that they want him gone so it seems silly for him to just bolt before his celtics team coagulates and developes a little more.

I just can't see it, and I certainly don't think that Ainge wants to give up the control he has on this team. I'm sure the scrutiny he's come under in recent seasons would influence his decision, but this guy has a team he has molded himself, and out west he has Ron Artest and some shooters. Granted, there are players on that team that could one day turn them into a regular winner, but I think we have some time to think about all that.

A fun team to watch, and not bad, but not one that a guy like Ainge would succeed with.
