I know lots of liberal people, and those who listen to any kind of talk radio tend to like NPR. I've never heard any liberal extol the virtues of Air America, or frankly even ever talked about it. *shrug* A conservative celebrating its demise is kind of like cowboys celebrating the failure of the Native American nuclear missile defense system. I wonder if other countries see similar divisions in media types as we do here. Is it everywhere that liberals flock to blogs while conservatives flock to talk radio, or just a peculiarity of our country?
One of my favorite broadcasters--Lionel--was part of Air America. It's really too bad. Hopefully, he'll go back to a night show in NY, when he got much more interesting callers.
The problem with Air America was that it was organized to be a "liberal" broadcasting corporation, rather than one that sought to maximize revenues. Putting ideology before the bottom line is a stupid way to run a business. Say what you will about "conservative" talk radio, but those shows are primarily focused on profit. If they don't get the ratings, they change their analysis or change their hosts.
Which is why corproations should not be considered people . . . all they care about (and should care about) is money. All the people I know are concerned with more than just money.
This, I think, is one of the fundamental differences between most conservatives and most liberals today.
