This thread is for the one, the only, Al Sharpton. I recently watched the debate between him and former Imus In The Morning producer Bernard McGuirk tonight on FoxNews's Hannity & Colmes. My overall philosophy on Sharpton is that the guy should be pictured in the dictionary next to the word contradiction. He is always taking charge in some protest against a racially controversial incident when more often than not he is creating the controversy. He is also always contradicting himself, claiming he is a civil leader when he in the past has used racially insensitive slurs. A most notable incident of his slanted views on certain topics is Don Imus. He claims Imus deserved to be fired for his comments he made about the Rutgers Women's Basketball team. I really don't have a problem with that statement, Imus had no right to bash on a group of hard working colleigate athletes to make a cheap joke on his radio show. I might not neccesarily agree with it, but I can understand where people are coming from when they say they wanted him to be fired. What I do have a problem with is with the person that was spearheading the Imus-firing propaganda. That man was Al Sharpton. The same person who preaches christianity, the same person who has used plenty of racial slurs in his past and was forgiven. If a person who embraces christianity refuses to forgive someone over a mistake than that is just plain wrong. Sharpton has made plenty of insensitive remarks about his own race and people of other races yet he was continiously forgiven and he can be seen or heard all throughout areas of mass media. He is constantly contradicting himself. Although I personally do not like Sharpton; I have to give the guy credit. He is constantly putting himself in these ridiclous situations but he always is coming out of them with his head held high. In tonight's debate, he pretty much owned Bernard McGuirk. The guy knows how to critique statements and hold his own in a debate. As far as a public speaker and a debater goes, this guy has to be one of the best in the country. Although half of his views I find completely idiotic, I have to give credit where credit is due. The guy won't back don't from anyone and is able to twist and turn his away around any attack that is thrown at him. Anyone else have any thoughts on Al Sharpton? He has been a big media presence lately and has been rather controversial.

Al Sharpton is the problem, not the solution. That sums him up. He doesn't seem to understand that bullying people and blaming others is the wrong way to strengthen the black community. Instead of impowering people, preaching to be good, he blames white people and politicans for whats holding black people back....thus...nothing is achieved other than small political battles that mean nothing long term. Bill Cosby said it right that some black people need to look at themselves and stop blaming others for the problems. But Al Sharpton can't do that, he wants outrage, ratings, TV appearances, more money....I wish black people and the media would just dump his ass....it's like he's the black god that we all have to agree with...when the guy is nothing but a self obsessed egomanic.

I don't know a signle person who agree's with him not my mother, grandmother, or any of my friends. He's an idiot and alot of black people just follow him because they feel it gives them a voice in this country where there aren't alot of black voices. In all honestly I'd rather be silent than be represented through him.

I think he's a great ethnic leader, and he is doing great fighting for black rights in America. I like his ideas, and no matter what any of you say, he's right 99% of the time. He's one of my favorite public speakers/activists out there.I can't believe I didn't barf while writing that. I did squeak out a tiny chuckle however.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>That you WTTJ for pointing that out to me.</div>No problem man and from based on what you said I believe you are an African-American. I will obviously never understand some of the hardships you have to go through but from just viewing Sharpton, the guy is out to put his name on any racially controversial incident just to get his name in the headlines and become the focus point for anything involving black people. If he really cared about the women at Rutgers he would have met with them and had a heart to heart. He never did that. I am just sick of seeing this guy try be the center of attention and the voice of African-Americans when I know plenty of black people and they all feel the same way I feel. I hope the black community comes out and targets Sharpton as being an idiot who is only trying to fuel his own personal agenda.

Exactly!! I listen to alot of hip hop and I can understand what Don Imus said about rappers saying alot worse things about women in the past, and it seemed like no one cared about the girls though.Don Imus shouldn't have been fired but ( I forget the broadcasting company who ran his show)would of never re-gained money from its sponsors and never would of had of heard the end of it so I guess it was the only thing to do.AL Sharpton calls himself a reverand(SP) and other things but all I see him as is a racist hypocrite that makes everything worse than it really is.
