Alabama, coming off a season of roster turnover and multiple suspensions, announced Friday that Tony Mitchell and Charles Hankerson Jr. will leave the program.

The players asked for their release and the university accepted, leaving them free to play elsewhere.

Mitchell, a junior, started all but one game before being suspended on Feb. 7. He never returned to the Crimson Tide lineup. The Swainsboro, Ga., native was second on the team in points per game (13.1) and rebounds per game (7.0). Coach Anthony Grant said at the time of the suspension that Mitchell was sent away not for a single incident, but "an accumulation of things."
