can't happen salary-wise. Interesting. But even if it was, losing LMA for a 1/2 year rental of boozer and a 15% chance or so at wall, when we're really going to need a PF? I'm not on board

Every Blazer trade thread involves Portland completely raping the other team in a deal.

Nobody wants Boozer. Nobody likes Boozer. Nobody wants to play with Boozer. His teammates see right through him. The dudes as fake as it gets.

Because they are homers. No matter how you look at it, Boozer and Aldridge are a wash as players, but Utah are sending a lottery to take on a newly extended player that will keep them in the luxury tax hell?

You think that's a rape? Really?

Boozer is probably gone after this year, so it'd be Aldridge for a lottery pick. That's not that outrageous.

Yeah I agree in that many of the proposals here are extremely one sided.

However I don't think this trade is extremely unreasonable. Aldridge is clearly more valuable than Boozer, is that value equivalent to the Knicks #1? Perhaps not, but I could see a reasonable GM believing it is. Nonetheless this trade doesn't make sense for other reasons, Utah already committed money to a PF, Utah can't take back LaMarcus' poison pill contract, Portland doesn't have much use for a one year rent a player this season.

You misunderstand. I think most reasonable Portland fans see this as being a ridiculous trade for Utah. Try to keep up, I was agreeing that this a bad trade.

    My bad

This trade doesn't work for either team contract wise, which is the obvious reason behind the different view. But talent wise, this trade I don't believe Aldridge is all that great from an outsiders view. Offensively, he shoots an average percentage for an "elite" big while not rebounding at a great rate either. Boozer is by far the better player offensively comparatively since he does shoot at a higher clip, rebounds at greater rates, and is very good at keeping the TO's down like Aldridge. Defensively, Aldridge and Boozer get blocks at the same rate while Boozer has more active hands. Man to Man, Aldridge probably has better man to man but if Boozer was next to a Oden/Pryz combo, he'd look better defensively than you think of him now. Not to mention Aldridge is much more of a finesse scorer that takes quite a few jumpers, which would turn Utah's offense into the Chicago Bulls' with everyone one shooting jumpers. Really, this trade would make no sense all the way around straight up, let alone throwing in the Knicks picks. That's why Vinyard thought it was rape from a talent standpoint, ignoring the business part of the deal.

    Here's my thinking:

I think Aldridge is a great "character guy" and yes, THIS is the "homer" in me speaking.

He reminds me a little of Rasheed - without the "nasty." Is this a good thing from your PF? Personally, I think he's nice and all, but he's not an in-the-paint force. And let's face it - Oden won't be much more than "gravy" for us over the next two years. So we cannot count on Oden to be that force in the paint we all dream of.

Obtaining a talent (Aldridge) of this quality (and youth) in exchange for "dumping" Boozer, will make sense to Utah. Prying their Knicks' pick away from them is the "business deal" that Paul Allen and KP would drool over - come on, we all know PA and KP when it comes to loving their picks!

If Boozer would be willing to agree to a sign & trade, it might make more sense from the Blazer perspective - however, if he walks - we can pursue Bosh in the off-season. Boozer, next to Joel and hopefully, Oden - would offer us a banger/enforcer that we sorely lack. A true, in-the-paint scorer. Even now Boozer is averaging 20/11.

At the end of this season, Boozer will be gone from Utah. As mentioned in posts above - few teams were coveting Boozer....thus, Utah packages up their NY pick and, in return, land a talent in Aldridge. How much better are they going to do? [no better!]

Next up: CP3! OK, perhaps here is where all of my logic gets flushed, but I can dream, right? We package up this (NY) lottery pick, along with Miller/Outlaw - and sway New Orleans into a CP3 -to-Portland trade. (New Orleans dumps salary and is stocked with picks to rebuild that mess).

And if we could move Blake for say, Gortat (to shore up the 5) we'd be off and running...

    Here's how we'd look:

    CP3 / Bayless / Mills
    Roy / Rudy
    Batum / Webster / Cunningham
    Boozer / Pendergraph / Howard?
    Pryzbilla / Gortat / Oden

During the off-season, our priority would be to re-sign Joel. And to find a young PF in the second round, etc.

Now let's say that Boozer comes to Portland for the remainder of the season and he walks: We pursue Bosh!

    Imagine, when everyone is healthy:

    CP3 / Bayless / Mills
    Roy / Rudy / 2nd Round shooter
    Batum / Webster / Cunningham
    Bosh / Pendergraph / 2nd Round PF
    Oden / Pryzbilla / Gortat

Hey - how did Gasol wind up in Los Angeles? etc. etc. etc.

    Because "business" is "business" - - -

I'm not going to be surprised to see some (what we think to be) lopsided transaction happen before the trade deadline! Will you?

I just want to see one that benefits the Blazers!

We have pieces of a "business puzzle" for this to happen: We have expiring contracts in Joel, Blake and Outlaw....and we have Miller ( veteran PG that could wind up with a team in contention); and we have a host of other players that we "homers" should not think of as untouchable.

In my opinion, only ROY has the "untouchable" tatoo on his arm.....ok, I guess Oden is pretty untouchable at the moment! :sigh:

No way I'd do this. Utah would be a BEAST after this. Imagine an Aldridge/Millsap/Okur big man rotation for them, with Deron dishing it.

Yes, Aldridge and Boozer are a wash, but Aldridge is younger and Boozer is almost certain to leave.

They'd have a great future core with a coach who knows how to get the most out of talent.

Why? I like Aldridge. I don't see Boozer and a #1 pick a upgrade at all.

lol I would do it in a heartbeat. But Utah would laugh.

More like Millsap and the pick for LMA.

Lets see Willie Warren (Projected as the #3 pick on Hoopshype) and a guy the Jazz (and 75% percent of their fans) did NOT want back....... for LMA. And they would laugh at it?

I showed this thread to my buddies here in in Utah. They are laughing all-right. Laughing at you!

This is confusing. You seriously think they prefer Boozer (an unrestricted 2010 free agent who isn't interested in defense and have asked them to trade him a number of times) to Millsap (who can produce similarly but is much younger and is on a bargain medium-term deal)? "lol"

The pick could turn out great or be in the 5-10 range...
