<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>This past weekend Aleksander Emelianenko was scheduled to face Paul Buentello in heavyweight action during the FSN portion of Affliction: Banned but due to medical complications the fight was cancelled. A source close to the situation spoke to MMANews.com's Michael Moody on a condition of anonymity and explained that the blood tests came back right before Aleks and Buentello were scheduled to weigh in and that is why there was so much confusion around the stage and why the fighters did not weigh in. Gary Goodridge ended up stepping up on extremely short notice and filling in for the Russian heavyweight. The tests were positive for Hepatitis B which resulted in the CSAC cancelling the fight. Hep B is the result of transmission from exposure to infectious blood or body fluids containing blood. Possible forms of transmission include (but are not limited to) unprotected sexual contact, blood transfusions, re-use of contaminated needles & syringes, and vertical transmission from mother to child during childbirth. A positive Hepatitis B test is no laughing matter and this could spell the end of Aleks' fighting career as many of the people close to the situation pointed out. I can't imagine many fighters willing to step up to fight Aleks with the possibility of catching the disease. He most definitely will not fight in the United States again and it will be interesting to see if this positive test results in organizations from all over the world black listing the brother of heavyweigh king, Fedor Emelianenko. MMANews.com will have more on this story as it develops as we imagine a second opinion will be taken to make sure the test wasn't flawed.</div> Source
Yeah I don't know anyone that would agree to fight him if he really had that. Sad to see him retire as well, I wanted to see him fight his bro.
I was reading the thread over @ sherdog and a lot of users were saying it is about 85% curable, but it'll never leave his blood system. It'll just go into remission (I think that is the right term, I'm not medically smart). If that's the case, I don't think you'll find a lot of fighters willing to fight him, or a lot of athletic commissions willing to clear him.
It must be recent (this year) as he fought twice in Canada last year and they have similar blood testing. So it's not likely from his prison tats. I really like watching Aleks fight, hopefully he can be cured and cleared to fight again.
I don't know how contagious Hep B would be if both fighters are cut. My guess would be its quite low, but I guess you have to be careful.

They are a mma board, while Sportstwo seems to be heavily comprised of basketball fans. (which I like)
I see. If it stays in the bloodstream, like herpes, then there is little chance he'll have anyone agree to fight him, even if he is cleared by whatever athletic commission.

The overall quality at S2 is quite nice, which is why a lot of people stick around.
Update on Aleks E, looks like he may not have Hepatitis after all. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Aleksander Emelianenko says late medicals were cause for absence from Affliction card Aleksander Emelianenko, in an interview with Life.ru, discussed his absence from the Affliction: Banned card two weeks ago. Translation from MMA Mania: I passed the medical board and my license to fight was obtained without any problems. But the fact is that in California the commission is very rigid for admittance. One of the main conditions to let you fight is the ability to pass all of your tests on time. I had to be in America by July 13, the Visa was only good until the fourteenth and my tickets were purchased in advance for the fifteenth. On the whole, I was late. They thought the organizers could agree and settle the problem but they quickly found out they would not be able to get me on the card. Instead they were able to find a suitable replacement for Paul Buentello. The laws in California are so rigid. The MMA world was afire with rumors regarding Emelianenko’s absence from the Affliction card two weeks ago, with hepatitis being the leading rumor. According to Emelianenko, those rumors are completely false. It’s not hard to believe that California denied him a license due to late medicals as they’ve done this kind of thing before. Armando Garcia doesn’t play around. If you’re late with your medicals then you aren’t fighting in California, period. If it’s true that Emelianenko was only held off the card because of late medicals then it’s much better news than the rumor that he has hepatitis. I’d love to see him fight on U.S. soil against Affliction’s heavyweights and there would be almost no chance of him fighting if he had hepatitis. Late medicals we can work with. Hepatitis? Not so much.</div> This is great news. Aleks is a good fighter and I was really looking forward to his fight. I hope he's no the next card.
He fought 21 times since 2008. Seems like the diagnosis didn't make a difference. He also went to prison for rape, but I guess he's a good player.
