Alex Smith isn't going anywhere, IMO. Honestly, I would have picked up Aaron Rodgers if I thought getting a QB in the draft was a good idea. Which it wasn't. If I were the niners, I would have made Ronnie Brown, Cedric Benson, or braylon Edwards the #1 pick, and kept Rattay as the starter for another year. That would have lead to an awful season, most likely, insuring the niners another top 3 lottery pick (hopefully the first, in their case).That would have been the right decision. Because, then Matt "could have been the 1st pick in the 2005 draft" Leinart would have been available. Stupid 49ers, and their impatience with losing.
