Anybody see the ESPN special, or read the book? I picked it up yesterday. It's an humorous and wonderful read, and a wonderfully desgined and edited book by George Lois. It is titled "Ali Rap: Muhammad Ali The First Heavyweight Champion Of Rap. I'll shoot off a couple of my favorite lines from the book. "I should be a postage stamp. That's the only way I'll ever get licked." " I've got speed, power and endurance. And anyone who fights me had better take out extra life insurance." " I'm so fast that last night I turned the light switch off in my bedroom...and I was in bed before the room was dark." "I've seen George Foreman shadowboxing... and the shadow won." "Don King's body got four years in prison, but his hair got the chair." here's some great dialogue between Ali and Howard Cossell. "Howard Cossell was gonna be a boxer when he was a kid- only they couldn't find a mouthpeice big enough." -Ali Howard Cossell - " You seem awfully truculent today, Champ." Ali- " I don't know what truculent means, but if it's good, it's me." [Truculent - 1:feeling or displaying ferocity; cruel, savage. 2: Deadly, Destructive. 3: scathingly harsh: Vitrolic. 4: Agressively self-assertive : Belligerent - tru-cu-lent-ly adv. ] Howard Cossell: "Muhammad, you clearly aren't the same fighter you were ten years ago." Muhammad Ali: "Well, Howard, I just talked to your wife and she says you're not the same man you were TWO years ago." "So when they ask you what's the latest, just say: "Ali, Ali, he's still the greatest!""
I love Muhammad Ali. I've read a few biographies on him. I gotta pick up this book. Those quotes are priceless. "It's hard to be humble when your as great as I am"
I was looking for the book when i was in the US. Couldn't find it and I left a few days before the Ali Rap was on ESPN. I did see one quote on him, not sure what book it was which I found somewhat funny (and disgraceful). Restaurant not serving Ali, because he was black in Florida. Waiter: We don't serve Negros Ali: Well I don't eat em.
