(December 22, 2004) -- The Toronto Raptors participated in the second phase of the 2008 NBA All-Star Game bid process Friday, December 17. Members of the 2008 NBA All-Star Game selection committee were in Toronto to meet with Raptors officials, tour Air Canada Centre and visit a number of other city sites, including the National Trade Centre and downtown area hotels.

The Raptors? bid to host one of the premier events in professional sports is a joint partnership that includes Tourism Toronto, the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto. Each party including Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, owner of the Raptors, will make a significant financial contribution towards hosting the game.

?We?re encouraged by our meeting with the NBA All-Star committee. We feel we?ve put together a strong application that has solid support and a strong financial commitment from Tourism Toronto, the Province and the City,? said Bob Hunter, executive vice-president and general manager of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. ?Hosting the NBA All-Star Game in Toronto will showcase our city to 212 countries and more than 3.1 billion people worldwide, which will have a tremendous impact on tourism and economic development.?

Hunter added that All-Star week would have an estimated visitor spend of $35 million to Toronto.

The NBA All-Game is a week-long celebration of basketball that enables fans from around the world to experience the thrill of the best players in the NBA playing the game they love. More importantly, the event will help grow the game of basketball in Canada, while leaving a lasting number of important legacy works behind for the community and youth at risk.

This is the first time in the Raptors? ten-year history that the team has applied to host the All-Star Game.</div>

I think it would be awesome to have the all-star game in Toronto. I would love to get my hands on some tickets for it if it happens. Even if I wouldn't it would be great for Toronto. Bosh might even be an all-star by that year.
