I'm kind of building this off of the kobe-ray allen comparison thread.Superstars:Allen Iverson-Complete scoring machine that can get 30+ with ease. One of the most influential players of all time.Kobe Bryant-Another scoring machine. He's set several record for the youngest player to [insert accomplishment here]. He's also the clutchest player in the league.LeBron James-He has a wholeness to his game that is very rare. he gets triple-double like stats, and he's an unselfish star. He has an amazing mix of size, athletic ability, adn skillset. Basically one of a kind in this game.Shaquille O'Neal-Perennial 20/10 guy. Pretty much unstoppable in the post, but he is also a very good passer. He can be lazy on both sides of the court tho, and he can't stay healthy.Tracy McGrady- He is acrowd pleaser. His crazy jumpshot and athletic ability wins over any crowd he play in front of. Hasn't shown he can win, and he can't stay healthy.Tim Duncan-His game is boring, but he gets the job done. Arbuably the greatest winner in the game today. He is one of the best two-way players in the league, and he's the most consistent player in the league almost.Borderlineaul Pierce- Doesn't get the respect he deserves, partly bc of his past. He used to be just a scorer, a talented player going the wrong direction, a pouter. Now he has transformed his game into a complete player. He is not nearly as selfish now, he's keeping himself in line (on and off the court), he's coming up big when his team needs him, and he has an uncanny desire to win.Dwyane Wade- He really is easily a top 10 talent, maybe top 5, but i still don't think he gets the respect he deserves. It's starting to come on recently tho, so he could be in the category above very soon. I already view him as a superstar, but some others don't.Steve Nash- I think he is superstar status, but he hasn't been doing it for long.All-Stars:Yao Ming- He's starting to creep his way up. He is now starting to dominate, but he doesn't really have that edge. It doesn't seem to me like he wants to win very badly. He doesn't take over alot of games (recently he kind of has). It'll take him a few years to reach the superstar status.Vince Carter- He is just flashy. He's very overrated. He is a talented scorer, but he's soft, and he's not a winner. He has poor shot selection and he's turnover-prone. In my eyes, he will be NOTHING more than a crowd pleaser, ever.Gilbert Arenas-He is an excellent scorer, but he is missing something. I don't know quite what it is, but he hasn't reached the superstar status yet. He is still very young tho, so he should reach it soon.I know i left out a few, so just fill in the blanks.
Your explination ofVince Carter is downright false. A flashy player only? He has a solid jump shot and is one of the few players in the league who can get it off at any time. You said he was turnover prone, when he averages less turnovers than Paul Pierce, Dwyne Wade, and Steve Nash who you listed in the "borderline" section(However Nash is a PG, which amounts for the TOs) . Plus if you watch the Nets, you should see Carter is the primary halfcourt offensive initiator, making his TO number quite impressive. He is a very willing passer, and doesn't try doing anything too flashy one in the lane (AKA Stupid, Highlight, Passes) Let's also not forget this year he is averaging close to 6 RPG. While he soft, and while he doesn't paly a nack of defense, noone does these days, so who cares? Carter is everybit as talented as Paul Pierce interms of his skill set, and is much more of a fan pleaser. While he doesn't execute like Pierce in games, he has every bit as equal right to be a Superstar or Borderline star.Wade should be a Superstar, he is a top 10 talent in this league in my opinon. However, when you say he doesn't get the respect he deserves, I disagree. Two ESPN writers said he was MVP and most fans think he is a Top 5 talent in the league. Some people say he is better than LeBron. I'd say the opposite, he gets too much credit. What was Miami doing without Shaq? .500 club. With Shaq they are now competing with Detroit. When they played Detroit last week, they were up for 3 Quarters running the ball through Shaq, and then lost it in the 4th because of Wade's erratic play. If you watched the game, you know what I'm talking about. Shaq had 2 fourth Quarter shots. 2 Shots in the fourth!!!! That's wrong. Wade on the other hand was shooting fadeaways and driving everytime. Don't get me wrong, Wade is a definate Top 10 talent. But to say he is in the Top 5 with Kobe, a healthy TMac, a healthy TD, Kevin Garnett, LeBron, Allen Iverson is plain wrong.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>He is a very willing passer, and doesn't try doing anything too flashy (AKA Stupid Passes, Unreal dunks)</div> Doesn't try to do anything flashy? I hope that's a joke, Carter is probably the flashiest player in the NBA
Watch a Nets game please. I have seen every single Nets game this year, every single minute on most occasions, and the guy is not nearly as flashy as Dwayne Wade. Not nearly as flashy as Jason Kidd. Is he flashy? Heck yes, but he does other things besides be flashy, which is what Dogmatist was saying. He said all Carter is is a flashy player, when in reality he has overall skill not 10 NBA players have. And I meant that he doesn't try penetrating under the net and making windmill passes. I meant he doesnt try spinning into the lane and dumping off passes every play. And notice how I said "too" flashy
I think Dirk is borderline. Out of all the PF's in the League or most and most players he has one of the best offensive games. He is a great long range and mid range shooter and he can use that step fake and go and then cut to the hoop with the lay in. The only thing setting him back as a Superstar is that he isn't the best defensive player and he is not a force inside and not a great shotblocker.
