Mike Moser picks the Ducks for his last season of eligibility. Should help replace Kazemi! http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcspo...-unlv-forward-mike-moser-transfers-to-oregon/
Good size, player of the year as a junior, had offers from other good programs. He'll be backing up Artis in 2014, at the very least. 2014 Point Guard Casey Benson Commits to Oregon http://www.addictedtoquack.com/2013...ecruiting-casey-benson-commitment-dana-altman
Papa G, sports banter and the nemesis board-BS aside, how is your daughter? Haven't heard anything for over a year.
The king of the one-year transfer showed once again Sunday why he wears that crown. Oregon coach Dana Altman landed his sixth one-year transfer in three-plus seasons in Eugene and his 11th overall transfer, securing a commitment from former Detroit guard Jason Calliste. The sweet-shooting 6-foot-2 fifth-year senior averaged 14.4 points, 3.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game as a junior and sank more than two 3-pointers per game. The addition of Calliste was made possible for Oregon when the NCAA ruled 6-foot-9 Brazilian prospect Cristian Felicio ineligible to play for the Ducks earlier this month as a result of suspicions that he had previously signed a pro contract. That left Oregon with one vacant scholarship, enabling Altman to add Calliste to provide outside shooting and insurance in case high-scoring Houston transfer Joseph Young doesn't win his petition to be eligible to play immediately. If Young has to sit out next season, Calliste would likely start at off guard in a backcourt that would also include point guard Dominic Artis, wing Damyean Dotson and reserve Jonathan Loyd. If Young is allowed to play, Calliste probably receives significant playing time off the bench at both point guard and shooting guard. Either way, his outside shooting will be an asset for an Oregon team that shot an anemic 33.3 percent from behind the arc last season and graduated its most productive 3-point shooter, forward E.J. Singler. It's no surprise Calliste would choose Oregon considering the success Altman has enjoyed with transfers with only one year of eligibility remaining. Ex-Minnesota guard Devoe Joseph was Oregon's leading scorer during his lone season in Eugene. Rice transfer Arsalan Kazemi brought toughness, interior scoring and elite rebounding last season, helping the Ducks win the Pac-12 tournament and reach the Sweet 16. And ex-UNLV forward Mike Moser will start for Oregon this season and have an opportunity to solidify a frontcourt depleted by graduation. Besides Oregon's history with transfers, Calliste is joining a program poised to maintain last season's success. With promising sophomores Artis and Dotson, veterans Calliste and Loyd and perhaps the talented Young as well, Oregon will have one of the deepest backcourts in the nation next season. Should Moser and sophomore Ben Carter manage to solidify the frontcourt, the Ducks will be contenders in the Pac-12 and will have the chance to make another memorable March run. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab...nother-key-one-transfer-adding-130033375.html
Dominic Artis and Ben Carter are both suspended for at least 10 games for selling team gear to collectors.
Fun to watch. Lots of fouls called, but the final was 82-75, and there were quite a few explosive dunks by both teams. The troops seemed entertained and were into the game throughout. Young is going to be an elite scorer, Loyd was solid, Armadi was a larger version of Carlos Emory, Moser played well (15/7/3a/6steals/1block), Dotson looked a bit unsure of his role, but I'm sure they'll figure it out. Teams with real a real post thread, and Joshua Smith is a real post threat, and going to give the Ducks trouble. Most other teams will be lesser than the Ducks athletically. Assuming Artis and Carter come back in 9 games, I can see another 25 win season and trip to the NCAAs.
Joe Young with 36 points tonight. Told ya'll he's for real! He has two years of eligibility, and luckily is an undersized SG, which typically works well to have a guy stay all the way through college.
#14 Ducks come back in the second half after being down 7 at the half. Win going away using the usual formula of speed, length, and shooting. Not a bad double-header! Ducks win in hoops by 20, and Ducks beat OS on a last minute TD drive that reminded me of Joey Harrington.
4* F Jordan Bell cleared by NCAA and will play for Oregon when winter term starts. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Jordan-Bell-128638
So, there is a pretty fair chance that the Ducks' hoop team will wind up with a higher rating than the football team. Who would have predicted that?
I dunno... the football team can still be 8-10 and the b-ball team probably won't get there at season's end.
It's not the football side of things, so it doesn't matter too much, but how can the Ducks remain undefeated and drop 2 spots in the polls?
Probably due to their level of competition. But beating a very good Illinois team last night at a neutral site helps.
