    Love is the Answer…
May 22, 2008, 12:11 am If the question is which player do a couple of beat writers think the Nets should take in the Draft. David Waldstein of the Star-Ledger and Martin Johnson of the Sun cover both the Knicks and Nets and have made their choices for the two area teams. They think the Nets should take UCLA’s Kevin Love. Waldstein notes his recent loss of weight but Johnson worries that while solid, the 6′-10″ PF could slow things down.

I would be equally pleased with Love at 10, and a wing at 21
Or a wing at 10, and Speights at 21 (he's climbing up my draft board)

It would be great if one of Love, Randolph, or Lopez somehow slipped to 10 for the Nets to pick. I like Kevin Love the most out the three. But if the Nets believe one of them doesn't fall to 10 then out of teams drafting in the top 9 the Clippers seem like a good trading partner.

If one of those bigs is still available at 7 when the Clippers pick, then a deal to consider would be to send Carter to the Clippers for Mobley and Thomas and swap picks with them at 7 and 10. The Nets would pick up Love at 7 and the Clippers could get a guy like Westbrook at 10. The Clippers would have to send something else of value back to the Nets I would think to even out the trade, not sure what though. But that's the main part of the trade.

The Nets could then get a guy like Rush or CDR if they are available at 21. And maybe pick up Hardin, Chalmers, or Walker with the 40th pick in the 2nd round if they are available.

    Harris/Chalmers
    Mobely/Rush
    Jefferson/Thomas
    Love/S.Williams
    Boone/

They would have to decide on Marcus, Krstic, Diop, and Nachbar

The Clippers would try to hold onto Brand and Maggette with the addition of Carter. And maybe Livingston gets healthy and is ready to contribute.

    Livingston/Knight
    Carter/Westbrook
    Maggette/Thorton
    Brand/
    Kaman/

They would need to use their MLE and LLE on some backup bigs.

Just an option if the Nets want to rebuild.

    Nothing wrong with Nick Collison.

If he were on a good team he'd be considered a terrific role player.

That said, Love can do a lot more than Collison - even though Collison is a much better athlete at this point.

love brings frontcourt skill to the nba which so many few lotto bigs have. love is comparable to andrew bogut although i think he'll be better then bogut. i really hope we draft this guy so we can be more fluid in the frontcourt and not have to rely on our bigs just setting screens and rolling. problem is, boone, sean, love, swift, krstic... too crowded. my guess would be krstic would then be a goner but id like to resign krstic cheap, the QO and nothing else to come off the bench but theres still not enough PT.

    Here's a fun exercise.

In your mind change Kevin Love's name to, I don't know, Deangelo Robinson. So now you have:

    Deangelo Robinson

Now pretend that this guy is black while you watch 7-0 C Deangelo Robinson :

    <object width="440" height="361"><param name="movie" value="http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/player.swf?mediaId=3399341"/><param name="wmode" value="transparent"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><embed src="http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/player.swf?mediaId=3399341" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="440" height="361" allowScriptAccess="always"></embed></object>

The demand for this guy would be enormous.

edit: I mean jesus, why is Deandre Jordan getting hype. If this guy were named Kevin Love, and white, he'd be a lock to get drafted in the 2nd.

I don't ever see Love becoming a quality NBA starter unless he commits to getting in better shape and plays for a team who will run the offense through him. Love needs a lot of touches to be effective, which is one of the reasons he decided to declare for the NBA draft and leave UCLA. He wasn't a fan of Howland's slow down, grind it out offense, even though that style has propelled UCLA to four straight Final Four appearances.

Love will be a solid backup big man, but he won't have a true position in the NBA and he doesn't have a lot of upside because of his physical limitations.

He reminds me of Eddy Curry. Solid post game with a soft touch around the rim, but doesn't give much effort unless he has the ball. Cannot stop anyone defensively and gets winded rather quickly.

Love will be a quality backup who can give you a maximum of 15 to 18 minutes a game.

I just want the Nets to draft someone who can do what Coach Frank demands. Why is there such a disconnect between the players the front office acquires and the players that Coach Frank wants to play?
