Read on: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In a summer filled with NBA wheelings and dealings, many expected Allen Iverson to headline the list of players to change jerseys. To the comfort of many Sixer fans, it looks like that expectation will not be met. Team president and general manager Billy King said Tuesday that he no longer expects to deal his All-Star point guard, and that keeping Iverson gives Philly the best chance to win. "I fully expect Allen will be suiting up with us next season," King told the Philadelphia Daily News. "Allen and I have talked about it, and he wants to be here and is excited to be playing for us."</div> Source I think this counts as another in a long line of reasons to hate Billy King. The line where he says, "I fully expect Allen will be suiting up with us next season," frosts my chaps a little bit, because he was the one who made it abundantly clear that he would not like to see that happen.
You guys believe him? Wow. He's obviously just trying to raise the stakes a bit. The word was that he and Ainge couldn't agree on a deal because Ainge didn't want to give certain players up. You don't think King would accept if Danny called up with the offer he wanted?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting bengcord3:</div><div class="quote_post">THANK GOD!!!! Now if Ainge has patience, we can contend in 2 or 3 years for a title IMO</div> How so? <div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44Thrilla:</div><div class="quote_post">He's obviously just trying to raise the stakes a bit. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting bengcord3:</div><div class="quote_post">so what would it be, telfair, jefferson, and who?</div>Wally or Ratliff to match salaries.
King has no desire to take on Wally, so we now know why Theo came along. I kind of do believe him, because if he keeps making statements like this and leading AI on, it's gonna be a bitter split. But it was nice of him to give Ainge a heads up.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting bengcord3:</div><div class="quote_post">because we have a young roster filled with guys who i think are going to be VERY good, that's how so...</div> I understand the Celtics have youth, but do you honestly think they are going to develop this quickly and become good enough to make Boston championship contenders on the level of a Miami, San Antonio, Dallas, etc.?

I feel once the time comes that Telfair or who ever is able to be traded [8/28/06], those talks will heat up again. The Sixers were so down on AI a week ago, how could this have all changed so quickly? Billy King still has to feel the same way he did about Iverson a week ago, and if Ainge really wants AI (which I believe he does) I feel he will toss in some of those players he may not have wanted to get rid of if king is interested. Its all a decoy, the rumors will begin again in August...
The fact that AI's not going to Boston is good for both teams. For the Sixers, they don't lose their identity and their go-to clutch performer. AI still has 3-4 more elite years left, and by elite, I mean numbers above 22 pgg and 6 apg. For Boston, they won't surrender so much of their young talent. That's what makes this team unique is that they have a great foundation for the future.
