this story was published the 1st week of May, and not much has changed with Headley, to no surprise, as pertinent now as then... My original take, and still, ... Prado should of never been let go... Let Ref play a month or so at 'Thunder Alley'... Mateo may be a SS, but since Ref has been given year long train fare to AAA and back, do the same with the 19 yr old...give anyone a shot, who can make a difference.... Option 2, seems to be the only practical solution... http://yanksgoyard.com/2016/05/04/e...ly&utm_source=FanSided Daily&utm_medium=email
...almost 3 more years of Headley under contract...oye. ...Cashman signed him based solely on one outlier season...smooth move there, Ex-Lax.
Martin Prado , I was happy when Cashman got him, equally pissed when he was traded. That guy solved a lot of infield problems, hustled and the fans liked him. I do remember San Francisco showing interest in Headley, they are no doubt glad they didn't make that move. Headley probably has zero trade value so the Yanks are stuck with him.
Headley signing has turned into is a real sinker, currently horrendous - the length and cost was certainly questionable from the get-go ......however, for better or worse I believe Trashman/Trashcan signed Headley with expectations of at least putting up similar numbers to those of his career to that point .265/.347/.409/.756 along with sound defense and not because of some outlier season. Hats off to those who aren't surprised at him becoming inept both offensively and defensively.
My take on the Prado situation - of course he's been a good solid player, outstanding in his stint with the Yanks and currently having a terrific season. Trashman/Trashcan chose to make him the centerpiece for acquiring Eovaldi, a 26 yr old SP with a power arm who has been BAD throughout his career. So far Eovaldi has his ERA below 4.00 and a good 1.15 WHIP averaging 6 IP per start and has pitched well in his last two games. This is a very important year for him and any chance the Yanks have of competing for the division. jmo ➡ barring injury if he doesn't show good significant improvement this year I doubt very much he ever will in a Yankee uniform.
Tryouts for SS? Why not just go with DiDi in his 2nd season as a starting SS. If they were to fire Trashman/Trashcan tomorrow, I have to believe the next GM will at least wait and see this season before looking to dump Didi. You never know, he might progress and become "pretty good". He won't turn 27 until next year and so far he's currently batting .270, last year he was around .220 at this point. OPS up 10 pts, Ks down 30%, He's currently batting .258 w/risp, last year .250. Yankee team currently batting .212 w/risp. At this point I do believe his defense is more uncertain, mainly errors. He struggled last year in the early months and eventually settled in nicely. Currently .955 fldg%, 8 errors, R/F about average. Yes, I know there's 147 games left - that's why they play the games and usually give young players more than one season to shown what they have, unless they've reinvented the wheel while I wasn't looking.
"fire Cashman"?...gee, why would they do that? 1. 2013: 85-77 2014: 84-78 2015; 87-75 2016; 23-24 (and no, none of those records are acceptable by Yankee standards) 2. Headley flat out sucks. (and no, ".265/.347/.409/.756" did not warrant a horrible 4 year deal) 3. Di Di is a mediocre SS, period. (and yes, his mediocre production is replaceable)(there are at least 7-8 SSs I'd rather have0(including Eduardo Nunez) 4. Tex is a black hole (horrible contract)(and yes I know his contract is up but that doesn't make up for the multiple years of decline and injury) 5. Ellsbury too. 6. Having Prado whose contract is over this year instead of being committed to Headley for 4 years and David Phelps who is now flourishing in a relief role would have been better moving forward than having Eovaldi who tends to run hot and cold, and German, who has shown some promise, and Garrett fucking Jones. 7. there was NO reason to give Beltran 3 years. ...I could go on... and I have not checked but I just wonder how many position players the Yanx have on the roster who have been performing above league average. ...Cashman is the father of all of this, period... and defending him or asserting in any way that he deserves to keep his job, or pimping this roster as a whole, is simply blind homerism, pinstriped glasses wearing, pom pom waving. This team is mediocre and will to be so for the foreseeable future. And fwiw, there is not "147 games left"... there's only 115 games left.
Wow - I guess you really showed me. Pulled out all the stops including the obligatory lame mantra: "defending him or asserting in any way that he deserves to keep his job, or pimping this roster as a whole, is simply blind homerism, pinstriped glasses wearing, pom pom waving". Let's take a look at got you so worked up...lmao My post (#4). I never said Headleys numbers "warranted" his contract as you said. I did give my opinion that Cashman gave him the contract based more on his career numbers to that point, and NOT based on an "outlier season" as you suggested. I also said: "Headley signing has turned into is a real sinker, currently horrendous - the length and cost was certainly questionable from the get-go" ... AND "Hats off to those who aren't surprised at him becoming inept both offensively and defensively". My post (#5) regarding Prado/Eovaldi (Prado) "of course he's been a good solid player, outstanding in his stint with the Yanks and currently having a terrific season". (Eovaldi). "Trashman/Trashcan chose to make him the centerpiece for acquiring Eovaldi, a 26 yr old SP with a power arm who has been BAD throughout his career". "So far Eovaldi has his ERA below 4.00 and a good 1.15 WHIP averaging 6 IP per start and has pitched well in his last two games". ....."barring injury if he doesn't show good significant improvement this year I doubt very much he ever will in a Yankee uniform". My post (#6) I said I would prefer to just go with Gregorius in his 2nd full season as starting SS because he "might progress" and become "pretty good". Thus far he has shown improvement (batting 50 pts higher than last year at this point) also cut down on his Ks. You said Phelps was "flourishing" this year as a reliver after 28 innings but you couldn't and can't bring yourself to acknowledge any improvement Gregorius may have, or HAS shown after 44 games this season. You said there's 7-8 other SS you would rather have including Nunez.....that's fine,.... ... but that wasn't my point- Gregorius isn't making a lot of money, is still only 26 yrs old and under control for a couple of years.....and last I checked, Bogaerts, Lindor, Correa, A.Escobar weren't available....LMAO... nice try, cute little trick to mislead and cloud the issue. And regarding Didi this season, in my post (#6) I also opined: At this point I do believe his defense is more uncertain, mainly errors. He struggled last year in the early months and eventually settled in nicely. Currently .955 fldg%, 8 errors, R/F about average. Yep, sounds like a "blind homer" to me.....Lmao Oh, one more thing, yes, there were 115 games left....not "147", and there IS STILL ENOUGH TIME for players to show improvement......and also, where I come from, you aren't called a "blind homer" If you think being 5.5 games out of first with 115 to play isn't quite insurmountable...... Want a towel?
geezus christo, I've never seen or heard anyone justify (with a homer's blatant fervor), for tap dancing, so much, for so little... or- write an entire page of words, without one; worthy of this PC's Screen.... that's a lot of wasted energy; not positive energy neither, rather egoism brushing its own smoking jacket...
"Geezus Christo"....... Did you think I was going to let that pass? I won't ask you to point out anything I said which were "simply blind homerism, pinstriped glasseswearing, pom pomwaving". Do you know why I won't ask you? Let's just say it has to do with a ventriloquist.

lmao.... head or hand still stuck.....? who gives two cents, not I, you mistaken me for someone who gives a fk....
easier than plucking off sleeping ducks on a pond, ....oh, those were decoys...? I'm trying to use barb-less catch and release hooks, but just as quick as I remove the hooks, release back to the lake; the damn fish keep jumping back into the net(s)...
