Amar'e, Gentry, and even Charmin collectively disparage Roy's effort

WOW, the first two, okay, but not you too, Channing.

“Roy really didn’t affect us. He wasn’t the difference at all. We just didn’t bring the effort," the Suns' big man (Stoudemire) said. That thought was backed up by coach Alvin Gentry, who pointed out that the only regular-season victory the Suns had over Portland was the game Roy played in. And Channing Frye --- you’d think HE, most of all, would know better --- said of Roy, “I think it’s just another player for them.”

    Great piece by Canzano. http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/or...sf/2010/04/canzano_the_legend_of_brandon.html

It's a good column, man. Read it.

I don't like the guy either, but this was pretty cool.

<pedant> Everyone got that "pre-check-in" run wrong: it wasn't 9-2, it was 8-0. Mike Barrett called it 9-2, but Roy didn't stand until it was 17-10 Phoenix. When he came in, it was 18-17 Portland. </pedant>

What do you expect them to say? They can't give the Blazers props. Playoffs are mental as much as physical.

He knows where his bread is buttered. Come playoff time, he's pro-Blazers. After the season, he'll start muckraking again.

Fuck Canzano. When I walk by him in the media room at the RG, I always "cough" something. For instance..... Jack-Off or Ass-Face. He must think I have real bad allergies. He always gives me strange looks!

Frye is a scrub. He's a soft 6'10" version of James Jones. He doesn't have the credibility to talk down on any Blazer -- especially Roy.

They would have been better off saying that Roy coming back was a huge emotional lift for them, and that was the reason they won this game. For the rest of the series, however, his presence will be expected, so the emotional lift won't be there.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I wouldn't characterize those quotes as "disparaging Roy's efforts." They aren't willing to say he was the difference between the Blazers winning and losing, and they may be right. I'm glad Roy is back, but I don't know that he was the difference tonight. I admire his dedication, though.

I actually think we won in spite of Roy. It would have been a 20 point win without him. :pimp:

Even the AZ Central columnist shares the same sentiment as Canzano.

Being concerned over Roy returning this soon is not ignorant. I think you would have won without him.

Aldridge said he saw his first open shot of the series once Roy stepped onto the floor. Whether or not that is true, Roy's presence did inspire Aldridge to have the best game of his career. And then Roy hit the two biggest shots of the fourth quarter.

So NO, we wouldn't have won by 20 without him. With all the pressure continuing to be mounted on LMA and Bayless, we likely would've lost by 20.

Gentry is an idiot and he won't have his team ready to deal with Roy in Game 5. I expect 25-30 points out of Roy and a win in Game 5.

I'm in the same boat, Roy just being there helps this team, now if he can produce some nice numbers Portland should have the upper hand. I'm hoping that Gentry thinks of Roy as just another player and doesn't adjust to him......that would make HOWIE very happy! :D
