The other candidates were Mike Bibby and Michael Redd.
Congratulations to Amare even if this award has no value.

Forget the week, Amare should be a candidate for Player of the Month. He's played monster games this month, despite them all being right after coming back from an injury.

He is a BEAST! Watching him play, you can see that he has some of Shaq's power and some of Dream's finnesse. A deadly combination.

Man, Amare is great...wait no........ AWESOME. Amare has really gotten better since he was a rookie and even better since all star break. He is averaging 26.3ppg since allstar break. This guy is gonna be an allstar in the near future.... very near future.

Hmmm... seems everybody is figuring out what everybody in Phoenix has known for 2 years now. Remember he was ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, I'm not sure why he's NOW getting praise, he's just doing what he has been doing since day 1. The only difference is he's toned down his emotions, and is playing a bit smarter, instead of fighting for EVERY rebound, going for EVERY block, and attempting to dunk EVERY time... he is now learning to play defense without fouling out, he lets Shawn and others get rebounds, and doesn't try to block everything in sight (last year he'd get in everybody's face when they drove in and tried to dunk/lay up the ball, usually resulting in a foul) -- his biggest improvement is that sweet 15 footer he has... he isn't knocking it down enough to change the scouting report (so a lot of teams and announcers still say he needs to work on his shot, even though he has and it's looking really good, they seem to forget Amare's mentor was Scott Williams who has the prettiest shot for a big man).

His numbers actually don't impress me as much as they should... I am actually surprised seeing some box scores because Amare plays the game and dominates, but his box score is like 22 points, 10 rebounds, but the way he plays it seems like he had better numbers, just goes to show you that the box score isn't always valid when judging how somebody played. Look at Jason Kidd, he'll have 10 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds with 5 turnovers... not the best line, but as we all know Jason Kidd influences the game in ways that the box score can't cover. So for those of you just going by the box score (don't get me wrong, I'm a huge stat guy, I love stats, I spend a lot of time mauling over stats) Amare is much better than you think... the 5 best players for your buck (in my opinion) are Amare, KG, Vince Carter, LeBron, and Iverson (for those of you who are gonna post, what about Kobe, Shaq, T-Mac, Kidd, etc. I picked the 5 I'd gladly pay to see... this has nothing to do with talent, more-so excitement... besides I could pick 80% of the NBA, but I had to pick 5).

He should be an All-Star soon, but he has so much competition in the West... most teams in the West have at least 1 good forward (He even has to compete with his own teammate, Marion) so I'm not sure if he'll make it next year. KG, Duncan, Brand, Nowitzki, Marion, Amare, Gasol, Webber, Stoakovic, Randolph, Lewis, Kirilenko, Melo, and Abdur-Rahim... LOOONG LIST!! Maybe the West All-Star teams can have Shaq, Yao, starting SG, starting PG, and 8 forwards :P
