"Amar'e Stoudemire is 30 points from Knicks history.

The sizzling superstar is on a scoring binge, ripping up opponents for at least 30 points in each of the last six games. Willie Gaulls did it in seven straight for the Knicks back in 1962. Stoudemire can tie that club mark tonight vs. the Wizards in D.C. with one more 30-point effort.

But that's not what's on his mind.

"It'd be great, but it's not something that I take pride in," Stoudemire said yesterday. "I take pride in winning.

"But records are meant to be broken."

The surging Knicks, winners of six straight and 11 of 12, try to make it seven in a row in their final game against inferior opponents before the competition level gets far better. In their last meeting vs. the lowly Wizards (6-15), Stoudemire was held to 18 points in the Knicks' 121-91 rout on Nov. 5.

Stoudemire, whom Raymond Felton championed as the NBA MVP at this point, has scored 205 during the six-game streak. Thirty more tonight, and he is in the Knicks' record books.

"When it's only done one time in the history of the Knicks, it's not easy. That's for sure," Mike D'Antoni said. "But at the same time, he's got a contract for five or six years, so you'd expect different times he'll make runs at it. If he doesn't get it [tonight], he'll be knocking on the door a few more times.""

He breaks it for sure. His scores at least 8 points in the 4Q every game, the dude is on a tear.

Willie Gaulls is a bit before my time. Maybe TBF remembers him :)
