Honestly, I'd never really gotten into this show....until this season. My wife got me watching it as she knows how much I love music.

These performers are freaking amazing. Enough said.

Another amazing demonstration of superb talent last evening. Sunday/Monday were the first events where the public voted. Will find out the results of those votes (resulting in the top 16) this coming weekend. From there, I think it whittles to the top 10.

No offense ABM. I just feel like i'm in a time machine going back 20 years hearing people excited about this show.

If you really want to watch a singing show, check out the masked singer or the voice. Two shows I find much more entertaining and fun than whay American Idol is nowadays.

KellyAnne Conway's kid is on American Idol so the MAGA's are really excited about it.

I really don't like any of the singing shows but the blind auditions for the Voice are a great concept, after that the show is unwatchable for me. I've caught a couple of Masked Singer episodes when the wife is controlling the remote, it's a cleaver idea but gets old rather quickly.

Well, I know nothing about those other shows, but we've been thoroughly entertained by American Idol. (I would have said AI, but probably would've received the proverbial quip from @barfo pertaining to artificial intelligence.)

Totally can understand that and agree on the voice being best during auditions. Not for everyone. Personally I like masked singer the most.

What I don't understand is how people still think that a good singing voice is some kind of rare talent.

There are SO many good singers. There might only be a small number of truly epic singers (Streisand, Whitney Houston, etc) but there are tons and tons and tons of really good singers out there. I stopped watching America's Got Talent because singers with sob stories kept winning and I got annoyed because I could just watch the Voice or American Idol if I wanted to see good singers.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Do people think that? I had the impression that American Idol was intended to separate the rare singing voice from the merely good ones which, as you say, are numerous.

For some reason, I think people still are amazed by even decent singing voices. As I said, I got tired of watching America's Got Talent because signers would advance to the finals every time and would beat out some truly unique and interesting acts. There's the sob story factor though, where these shows really play up everyone's story. This person lost a parent to cancer. This person is 400 lbs but they're pretty on the inside. etc etc etc. With that said, these shows have really exposed how many decent singers there are.
