The participants in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge were selected by the NBA?s assistant coaches with each team submitting one ballot. The head coaches for the Rookie and Sophomore teams will be the lead assistant from the 2006 NBA All-Star Game coaching staffs. Del Harris, of the Dallas Mavericks, will guide the Sophomores, while Sidney Lowe, of the Detroit Pistons, will lead the Rookies. Gordon, a member of last year?s Rookie Team, has averaged a team-high 15.1 ppg, 2.8 apg and 2.5 rpg in 28.9 mpg. He has appeared in 42 games on the year, with 17 starts and is shooting .406 from the floor, including .398 from three-point range, and .757 from the free throw line. The 6-3, 200-pound guard has led the Bulls in scoring 10 times, including a season-high 32 points against New York on Jan. 18 that he capped off with a game-winning 22-foot jumper at the buzzer in overtime. Gordon was the third overall pick in NBA Draft 2004, earned All-Rookie First Team honors in 2004.05 and became the first rookie in NBA history to claim the League?s Sixth Man Award. Deng, a 6-8, 220-pound forward, has averaged 13.2 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.7 apg and 31.3 mpg in 43 games and made 25 starts this year. He has led the Bulls in scoring eight times, in rebounding nine times and has recorded four double-doubles. Deng, the seventh selection in NBA Draft 2004, came to the Bulls via a draft-day trade with the Phoenix Suns on June 24, 2004. Along with Gordon, he participated in last year?s game as a member of the Rookie Team and claimed All-Rookie First Team honors for the 2004.05 season. Nocioni. a second-year forward, rounds out the Bulls threesome, with season averages of 12.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg and 1.4 apg in 26.3 mpg. The 6-7, 225-pound native of Argentina has appeared in 44 games this season, including 28 starts, and is shooting .460 from the field and .854 from the line. He currently is ranked second in the NBA in three-point field goal shooting, going .487 from long distance. He has led the Bulls in scoring on six occasions, in rebounding seven times and has registered two double-doubles this year. Nocioni was named to last year?s All-Rookie Second Team. The three Bulls will be joined on the Sophomore Team by T.J. Ford (Milwaukee), Devin Harris (Dallas), Dwight Howard (Orlando), Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia), Nenad Krstic (New Jersey) and Jameer Nelson (Orlando). Emeka Okafor (Charlotte) was also selected to the squad, but will miss the game due to injury.
