And what exactly did he expect?

Also, anyone know if Onyewu played in this match? I can't find good info on it anywhere.

Terrible. A professional should keep his cool and not let his emotions take the best of him. Obviously the fans can and will boo players and Beckham should be immune to this after the battering he took during WC02.

ME I assume you mean after WC98 right? When fans were burning effigies of him outside pubs, holding up red cards to him at Upton Park, headlines in the red tops such as "Ten Heroic Lions, One Stupid Boy". He received death threats around that time, so perhaps you would think that he ought to be immune from any kind of taunting, but obviously he's not.

Anyway my personal opinion of what has transpired with Beckham and Galaxy is that, when he originally agreed to sign, Wally with a Brolly was in charge of England and had dropped Beckham from the side (and told him he would never play for them again). Beckham then thought he could pursue other ventures (such as make a lot of money and hopefully boost football in the USA). He knew that by playing in the USA he would not face good enough competition to play for the England side, but then he was out anyway so that didn't matter. When Capello came in and opened the door back for Beckham, he was stuck. He would do anything to play for England, I truly believe that. He would give up everything he has to keep playing for the team, you can tell by the passion he has. To get good match fitness he had to play in Europe and, to be frank, needs to play in Europe permanently if he ever wants to get his starting place back. He might be upset that he has alienated the Galaxy fans, but it is a sacrifice that he is willing to make.

The simple fact of the matter is that Beckham is too big for MLS.

The reason Ferguson let him go in the first place was the adverse affect that it had on the team with him constantly being in the spotlight.

Sooner or later something has to give, you will either love the guy or hate him if he is one of your own.

My position on Beckham as a Liverpool fan suprises many. I basically believe he has been a fantastic servant to the game, he has been a consumate professional and the accusations made by Donovan suprised me actually. I am not saying that I don't believe them, with a little more thought it is not hard to bridge the gap between starting off loving the idea of MLS and then realising what he has actually let himself in for.

Beckham is bigger than MLS, sad but true. On your own shows such as PTI and ATH all we hear about is Beckham and the only reason we have started to hear about Donovan is because he did this. The cynic in me believes that just maybe this was a ploy and that no publicity is bad publicity but I don't think despite what people may think that Beckham will play that game. I think there obviously was an issue but Donovan was out of line bringing it out in the open, epsecially with it being Beckham and knowing full well the furore that would follow.

One thing about David Beckham is he has always landed on his feet and despite the backlash I wouldn't bet against it happening again for the simple fact he is David Beckham. Maybe I'm not giving Donovan enough credit, maybe he is actually a motivational genius because the last person to call Beckham out in the media was Cappello and Beckham responded by being a huge part of winning him the title. Is Donovan a genius? Does Beckham care enough to respond in the same manner?

The biggest irony of all would surely be if Beckham's "dream" of improving and exciting soccer fans ended with those same soccer fans and the league he dreamed of improving being the final chapter in what has been a fantastic career.

Whatever the case, there will always be one Liverpool fan that has time for the athlete, the footballer and the man for the ability and character he showed in every shirt he has worn that mattered to him. Oh wait, maybe I did just give away the ending....
