I agree with the analysis that Hudson has something left in the tank after Kuroda. I would like to think that we can secure Tanaka but the more I am reading it seems to lean toward the Dodgers as the team he will sign with. And as I think about a X posting fee and a Y free agent fee, the more it angers me that we here this Cap bullshit. So 120,000,000 dollars for a pitcher who has been overworked and hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors. It's simply incredible. I realize that all scouts have raved about his abilities but still it's a gamble.
...yeah, it was pretty much the same way with the other Asian imports. With a lot of hype and fanfare, a few of them still flopped, and ly end though you could conceivably find another Darvish, it is still a HUGE risk because you just never know if they will transition well to Baseball here in the state. Yanx have been burned before by these imports.
59, in the other post of Would you do that trade, and you brought up the hypocrisy of meeting the cap, but spending 100,000,000 + on a prospect who is highly thought of, but has had no exposure to MLB level players except the WBC... My quote posted below earlier share the same sentiments. "And as I think about a X posting fee and a Y free agent fee, the more it angers me that we hear this Cap bullshit. ......lol...yeah, I just responded in the other thread. And you're absolutely right, "X" and "Y" make no difference if the actual bottom line = "Z". It's accounting gymnastics but in the end, it's the same.
...and oh, major, that's also why I have said many times that if you're gonna spend a ton of money, instead of risking it on somewhat of an unknown, why not spend on an established player?
And that was how the Yankees responded the first 20 years or so of FA they always spent wisely. Maybe the Steve Kemp signing was one of the less successful.
^^^yup, Gene Michael and Bob Watson were both Baseball men...Cashman on the other hand was, for lack of a better analogy, George Costanza.
