"For 10 minutes after the Devils left the ice following their disappointing 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday night at Prudential Center, their locker room door remained closed.

Inside, rookie head coach John MacLean was talking to his players about their latest sloppy effort, one that left them with their worst start to a season in 27 years.

"It was pretty simple," MacLean said of his postgame message. "We had a couple lines that battled the whole game and we had some passengers."

The Devils opened the season with six games in nine nights and went a disastrous 1-4-1, including 0-3-1 at home. Their 1-0 overtime victory in Buffalo on Wednesday is their only win."
