<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">At 3 p.m. Tuesday, about an hour after the news reached Carmelo Anthony's ears that the Nuggets' trade for Allen Iverson was complete, he dialed his newest teammate.

"I talked to him today," Anthony told The Denver Post on Tuesday night. "He said, 'We're going to make it work.' People are saying that we can't play together. He was saying he's tired of doing everything himself."

Anthony (31.6 scoring average) and Iverson (31.2) are the top scorers in the NBA. Critics contend there won't be enough basketballs for the two to maintain their scoring averages on the same team. Anthony says they can.

Asked if either one of their scoring averages will suffer, Anthony said: "I don't think so. I don't think so.

    Not at all.

"A guy like that who has to do everything - score, pass the ball, play defense - he had to do everything by himself," Anthony said. "For him to come to a team like this, where we have (Marcus) Camby, Nene, myself, J.R. (Smith); we like to get up and down the court, and our style of play I think is going to help him out where he doesn't have to do too much.

"And plus it takes way more off my shoulders. I'm looking forward to that."

Nuggets coach George Karl said he expects both players to put aside their scoring prowess for the good of winning basketball games.

"I think both players want to concede some of their statistical glory," Karl said.

The coach then took a harder-line stance.

"Who cares?" he said. "Why ever talk about it? Whatever it takes to do, I think they'll do."

At the moment there's not much Anthony can do while he serves his 15-game suspension for punching New York Knicks guard Mardy Collins during an on-court fight Saturday. Anthony can't play until Jan. 20 when Denver travels to Houston.

Anthony said his reasoning that the two will flourish in each other's company comes from playing with Iverson on the 2004 Olympic team.

"Just seeing his game, seeing how hard he worked out there ..." Anthony said. "There's going to be some big things here." </div>
