1. People are concerned that the vaccines aren't FDA Approved or they are rushed without any long term studies or concerned with the small number of adverse reactions. 2. People know the survival rate of COVID if you do catch COVID and are willing to risk it.
I missed measles vaccine by only a few weeks. Measles nearly killed me. No exaggeration. My little brother had to be locked out of my room since quarantine was the only way to prevent contagion. I was still sick in bed wen vaccine was approved. My father took him for shot. He probably cried because that's what one year olds do. But he never got measles.
I've never been as sick as I was with measles. That vaccine is worth it's weight in gold. Any parent who doesn't get their kids inoculated for that is out of their mind.
Getting my second dose this weekend. From what I have heard, that’s the one that has given most people some negative reactions. I was nervous about getting it, but we’re supposed to be back at work soon, so it’s a calculated risk.
I’m three weeks out to my second shot and leaving for Hawaii that evening. Hoping if it gives me trouble, it waits 24 hours. The few folks I know that have had both shots were sluggish but not a lot of other symptoms...
My wife had her second shot on Sunday, she had a slight headache and a bruise on her arm. I have heard of others that feel sick for a day or two. I hope you all have the same experience as my wife and have no negative reactions.
My spouse felt like crap for two days. Hoping that doesn't happen to me. My first shot only made my arm a little sore. My spouse could barely move her arm after the first shot.
I had school friends with polio, I stood in line with my mother for what seemed like hours for the sugar cube. Early fifties.
I remember that well too. It was a little later than your memory says. Salk gave the first vaccines in 1954, and the first mass vaccinations didn't happen until 1955. I think the sugar cubes came along a little later. Here's a quote from Dr. Salk at the time of his first vaccinations:
Same. Got an upset stomach and a bit of a fever, not to mention a really sore arm. Sure beats shingles, though.
