An opportunity opened up at Nike and I'm trying to get a feel for the corporate culture. This would be a very rare chance for me to move back to the Portland area, but would require a slight pay cut. Just want to find out all I can first. Feel free to PM me if you want to stay more anonymous.
I would have thought that with this talent pool, we would have had an insider. The best I can do is tell you the jest of a conversation I had recently with the Director of Human Resources. We were involved in a separate business matter, and the conversation came around to personal satisfaction on the job. The things that made an impression on me was that he had some 13k employees world wide, and working conditions exceeded regional and national averages. The Portland location is as close to a collage campus that you can get and still call it work. I believe the term he used was "Destination Location".
Thanks. There are a couple of insiders that PM'd me and gave me some very valuable information. Overall, people seem to like working for the company.
Even though you would take a slight pay cut, doesn't the cost of living change from california to oregon nullify that?
Barely these days, but you're right money goes allot farther, housing especially. Saves money for a proper vacation when you need it, Portland culture loves its PTO, just passed a mandatory law for it lol.
I work directly for Phil and just have one question. Do you mind working for a company that has small children make shoes that cost us about 2 cents that we can sell for a good 100-125? If not you are hired. We fuck around all day on our college style campus and all make decent money off poor countries. Why, cuz fuckem that's why! (POPCOPY)
If you are an alpha and love competing, you will fit in with Nike. I would not worry about the money. If you love the job, the money will eventually catch up.
I have not met Phil Knight, but have met you. Great guy, but you are no Phil Knight. You buy a mean Jeagershot though.
Cost of living would be dramatically different. We were blessed to move to SoCal before the housing price boom. If we sold here we could pay cash in OR. And lets not even talk about current and future taxes in CA (as they figure out how to pay for the state's overspending).
I'm not hearing much negative at this point. Funny, my girls were watching the game last night with me and kept asking why we can't buy the family pack tickets. I keep pointing out that it would require a plane ride as well to get up there. I would be all over those packages if I were in Beaverton.
I think it is safe to say there are plenty of reasons for that. Besides, Phil couldn't hand with El Pres. Mix in some DaRizzle and it gets plain Krazy!
Wait, I have never seen HCP and his wife in the same room either. Noooooooooooooo! The entire board should be taking a Crying Game shower.
