I saw someone post this on RealGM and had to comment: Okay, drunk driving is a no no and I have no idea who Teinowitz is to begin with . . . but . . . I do know what the 3800 block of Greenwood Avenue is all about. Exactly four block to the Pita Inn! Nothing screams college like trying to procure a ride to the Inn when slightly inebriated. It's more undergrad than Sambuca. Anyone else miss Chicago?
When my wife and I were newlyweds we had a beautiful rehabbed apartment in a greystone two flat at 61st and Greenwood. And yes, I miss Chicago every single day. Glad I didn't have to deal with the blizzards last winter but overall I really miss my city.
I miss it, but not as much seeing that i live in englewood. A guy i went to HS wit was murdered like wed night. I miss home, but im happy to be away at school right now
Well, it's nice that you miss us, but I have to admit that when I was trying to get my overmatched snowblower through 5-foot drifts a month or so ago, I was really wishing that I was sitting on TB#1's patio sipping a cold drink and solving life's unsolvable problems.
Some of my greatest memories are the winter of 1992 I spent in the States and a week I spent in Chicago. I know there is a difference between living in a city and visiting a city but Chicago ,to me , is one of the world's great cities - and I haven't even been there in the summer time ! I was a teenager in high school here in Australia in the mid 1980's when the Chicago Bears were doing their thing and The Refrigerator became a world wide phenom Obviously cities like Los Angeles and New York capture the imagination of most people not from the USA .....and as a young kid I was no different but I became equally fascinated with Chicago mainly and then other American cities later like San Francisco, Miami , Boston and New Orleans Anyway....I remember seeing Chicago for the first time . I was on a Greyhound coming from Milwaukee and it was around 9 or 10 at night and I look down the aisle of the bus and see this brooding mass looming into view. I stayed just North of downtown in this hostel not too far from Loyola - lots of good bars etc . We only stayed 1 or 2 nights in the hostel as we met these girls who kindly got us to move in with them ( there were 3 of us and 2 of them - and my 2 mates were in pursuit .I slept on a couch for the rest of the week ) I could tell straight away that they were high maintenance and that my boys would have to be putting in major spade work . Hey I couldn't be stuffed . There were easier closes IMO. And I was right on both counts. Anyway...I remember this one day I'm downtown around the Daley Centre and Junior Wells and his band were set up in this street corner /piazza and start cranking out some tunes. It was so cool. A little snow falling...lunchtime around Thanksgiving time of year in downtown Chicago and this crowd forms and starts dancing around with Junior Wells and his boys. Damn. JW was the biggest name but I remember seeing some quality local blues hole in the wall types in that fabulous week I had in Sweet Home Chicago
