I say MSRP = $399. E-book reader, digital media hub (basically a portable Apple TV). Downloads through wifi, no cell network. Limited word processor...basically a big iphone with better media capabilities.
yup...basically looks like a big Ipod Touch. Lets see, either $399 or $499.....probably the $499 is a better guess.
$499 start price. Its good if you want to show it off, pretty useless on a plane since you'll get sick of looking down or holding it up or even typing unless you get a wireless keyboard...even though, I doubt its powerful enough for basic word processing tasks....the best part is a $30 monthly no contract 3G coverage through AT&T IMO. Netbooks are still way better. Engadget: * It's not light. It feels pretty weighty in your hand. * The screen is stunning, and it's 1024 x 768. Feels just like a huge iPhone in your hands. * The speed of the CPU is something to be marveled at. It is blazingly fast from what we can tell. Webpages loaded up super fast, and scrolling was without a hiccup. Moving into and out of apps was a breeze. Everything flew. * There's no multitasking at all. It's a real disappointment. All this power and very little you can do with it at once. No multitasking means no streaming Pandora when you're working in Pages... you can figure it out. It's a real setback for this device. * The ebook implementation is about as close as you can get to reading without a stack of bound paper in your hand. The visual stuff really helps flesh out the experience. It may be just for show, but it counts here. * No camera. None, nada. Zip. No video conferencing here folks. Hell, it doesn't have an SMS app! * It's running iPhone OS 3.2. * The keyboard is good, not great. Not quite as responsive as it looked in the demos.
Apparently Steve Jobs ripped Adobe and called them lazy. He said Flash is a resource hog and causes hardware to overheat. I guess HTML5 is supposed to change this.
That would be an adequate replacement but I always take Steve Job's complaints with a grain of salt. I was thinking about this whole "multiple windows" issue with the iPad before it was released and I guess my fears came to fruition. I feel like they are missing some vital components to the iPad, especially a built-in webcam -- THIS IS 2010, FOR FUCK SAKE!
I'm thinking of gettting one. I would kind of look like an asshole breaking that shit out at lunch time though.
