KNICKS ABOUT OUT OF MAGIC NON-CALL A REF WAY TO LOSE By MARC BERMAN "A FAMILIAR LOOK: The short-handed Knicks have fallen two games behind the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.March 27, 2007 -- The Knicks already had enough going against them with their injuries - then came a dreadful missed goaltending infraction in the final minute last night, and it all proved just too much to overcome. Orlando center Dwight Howard blocked Stephon Marbury's floater with the score tied and 52.9 seconds left, costing the Knicks a 94-89 loss at the Garden and, perhaps, wrecking their playoff bid. Marbury's shot appeared to be on its way down - and the non-call eventually doomed the Knicks. "It was clear as day that it was goaltending," Marbury said. "It was a tough call. I wouldn't say it decided the game, but it is game-changing. You would think when a play like that happens, you would think it would be called." With the painful loss, the Knicks dropped two games out of the eighth seed, occupied by the Nets, with 12 to play. Coach Isiah Thomas needed to be consoled by his nephew after the game, but decided to criticize his own team, particularly Nate Robinson and his late-game defense, rather than to go after the referees. " Well seems to me we are done no playoff hopes left this years. The only thing I see saving our franchise is getting KG or Lewis.
