I've always found Victor David Hanson's writing thought-provoking, and this article I think draws the parallels of today and 31 years ago quite well. http://pajamasmedia.com/victordavishanson/our-1979/?singlepage=true
that's a heckuvan article. probably doesn't matter...b/c looking at the past isn't necessarily part of the culture of today, except to evoke ignorant ramblings of "Nazis" and "socialists" and "white supremacists"
I'm not convinced you couldn't have written that article at any time in the last 40 years. There are always dangers afoot. The sky is always potentially about to fall. The number of bad things that happened worldwide between Carter and Obama suggests that the attitude of the US president is hardly the determining factor in whether the world is a dangerous place. barfo
