http://floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti.../607110331/1002 I hope they end up keeping Ariza. There's something about him like. And he has a lot of potential, IMO.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In 21 games with the Magic, he made quite an impression, showing flashes of star potential at times.</div> That is exactly why we need to keep him. He is full of potential and I think he is going to be a valuable starter in the future when Hedo is past his prime.
I don't think he'll go. I remember an interview with Otis and he said he wants to keep Ariza. He said he wanted to see him in a Magic jersey for years to come. If he is going to leave it won't be Otis' fault as he will undoubtedly try his best.
Also, Ariza wants to stay here. He doesn't want too much money either so we should be able to work something out.
Yeah I remember Otis SMith saying...look quote me We are resigning Trevor Ariza. But now I'm wondering...
Ariza is the man. There was some ridiculous dunk he had on Ben Wallace last year when he was with the Knicks. If he can work on his handle and jump shot, Ariza can be a very good player in the league. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFVEMyAKh_M&search=ariza
Looks like the Knicks want Ariza back as well. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">New York Daily News - Isiah Thomas is exploring the possibility of reacquiring Trevor Ariza, a player Larry Brown referred to as "delusional", the New York Daily News. Signing Ariza, a restricted free agent, appears to be a longshot, since Thomas drafted swingman Renaldo Balkman in the first round and has him under contract for three years. The Orlando Magic has the option to match any offer made to Ariza, who is looking to make $3 million per season. Ariza's agent, David Lee, told Florida Today that his client is "a jump shot away from being an All-Star." Lee also said that Sacramento, Houston and Denver have expressed interest in the athletic forward.</div> Source
I hope they don't pay him 3 million I would rather pay Deshawn a little extra. He (Stevenson) is way better and he already has a jumpshot

Whatever jumpshot Deshawn has it really is lacking as I've seen him go like 3-10 on so many games. Not to mention all his failed layups and and 1's.

He also has much better chemistry with Dwight, Hedo and Jameer. He is at least a threat to knock down an open jumper, something that Ariza isn't and they have about the same defense. I think Stevenson could be a 14-15 ppg scorer given the right touches and if he is healthy.(which is likely not going to happen in Orlando). I would choose Stevenson over Ariza right now. I would give Stevenson a 3 year deal worth 14 million and Ariza a 4 year deal worth 14 million. (since Ariza is younger) Those would be my offers if I was the GM. I would try to sign both because who knows what Grant Hill will give us and same with JJ(don't want to rush him right in and give him big minutes). Basically all of the free agents for 07 are already signed and if anything we can just trade Grant Hill for someone around the trading deadline(someone would do it, kinda like what we did to get Penny Hardaway).

I have a friend who says he is one of the best defenders in the league today.....The reason he has such good chemistry with Dwight, Hedo, and Jameer is because he's been there unlike Ariza. Give Ariza some time and I'm sure they'll get something going.....good, or bad . To tell the truth I hardly ever saw Stevenson hit an open jumper. Those are the ones he missed. Call me blind but its true, maybe I just watched the wrong games. Whenever he made a jumper it was always with a screen. Thats where I agree he can be a threat, he almost never missed those. Maybe I'm being too judgemental but even if he was healthy I doubt he would have made those layups and other shots. I guess if it came down too it, I woud give him a second chance but I would put Ariza infront of Stevenson if I had to choose.

He knows his role is defense and he doesn't complain about his role or how many shots he gets. All he wants to do is just be on the floor, regardless of how many shots he gets. He can change the outcome of the game without scoring. Stevenson hit quite a few open jumpers. Not 3 pointers or anything, but a little more than FT range. His defender would always be the one that double teamed Dwight. Towards the end of the year he got more shot opportunities, once Dwight started to figure out and anticipate the double team. We didn't really set plays up for him, so he couldn't have been running around screens that often. Stevenson would dunk it rather than laying it up when he was healthy. I think most of the problem was that he is so used to dunking those that he would go up like he would dunk it, but then realized that he couldn't because of his leg and had to change his shot in midair and get hit while he's changing it up. Stevenson has proven that he can play while having an injury. He rarely goes on the IR. Stevenson already has great chemistry with the others. Honestly I think he was the one that passed to Dwight the most the last 2 years. He knows his role and he is happy with it. He has a jumper and shoots 46% with a bum leg. I think he will end up resigning with us for less, because he knows that he can get 30 minutes with us, I'm not too sure where else he could get 30 mins.

QUOTE] I agree on everything you said except for that. i watched every game this year and you can basically see him trying to get the foul..numerous times ive seen him miss a layup not because his leg was hurt or he couldnt dunk just because he was trying to do to much and get the and 1 with the layup.. and if you noticed after mid way through the season the refs pretty much ignored his acting job because they saw so much of it the first half.. i dont know thats just my opinion...i like stevenson but i think ariza would be a much better addition to our team and he can def help us out when grant hill is gone
I don't know I'm not really a big Ariza fan, he can't shoot, can't handle the ball, and is turnover prone. Stevenson can do all of those things and IMO is the better defender. Ariza is not much younger than Sevenson (I think Ariza is 21-22 and Deshawn is 25-26 if I remember right) Deshawn hit alot of open jumpers last year, I watched almost every game last year and I think he was one of our most consistant players. On top of that he was guarding the other teams best perimeter player.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think Ariza is 21-22 and Deshawn is 25-26 if I remember right</div> Thats a big age difference in the NBA. A lot can happen in 3-4 years of someones career. Ariza can play D too though, I wouldn't say as good as Deshawn but he is still good. Ariza just has to develop a jumper and even the man himself knows that. His handles as from what I've seen is mediocre. He can make those handles better given time.
I just don't think that Ariza will develop like people think. Deshawn is young and established, Ariza is just young. Say Ariza does develop a jumpshot what then, he will never be higher than 4th option on this team. Deshawn has a jumper now by the time Ariza develops his he will be a free agent again thats if he develops one at all. We won't be able to pay him to stay so basically we will be paying him say 3-4 million to develop so he can go to another team. We have alot of potential on this team, if they all live up to expectations we won't be able to afford them.
I know next year with free agency SG will be the position that we are hoping to fill with atleast a star player if not superstar. Right now its looking like all the free agents for that summer are gone, but with trading and making salary cap space we can still upgrade that position. I think right now we are just trying to figure out who we want to keep at the position to backup the starting SG whoever that maybe. The best teams in the league have a great player at that position and we are lacking that. Dwight will need a swingman that can score and take pressure off of him and hopefully we address that next offseason. Till then we have Bogans, Redick and hopefully Ariza.
