"The break in the schedule and time away from his players didn't seem to sway Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt from sticking with his plan to repair his team's record.

When the Cardinals returned to practice on Monday after the weekend off, Whisenhunt remained committed to the idea of making personnel changes if needed to snap the team out of its five-game losing skid.

"When you are what we are, after we started and the way we've been the last five games," he said, "I certainly hope (the players) understand that, because that's what this business is all about."

Although last week's practice schedule was shortened, it was an opportunity to gauge position battles and isolate areas for improvement. But with a return to action on Sunday against the Falcons in Atlanta, the Cardinals are taking the information learned and applying it to this week's preparation.

"Last week was more about the competitive aspect of it and seeing some of the players that you don't get to see a lot of the times when you're doing game-plan practices," Whisenhunt said. "This week we've got a chance to start thinking about our next opponent and working on some things."
