Arizona's Natyazhko to play in U-20 Euro Championships

Unable to return home for nearly every vacation and holiday of the past two years, Kyryl Natyazhko will make up for it all this summer.

Not only did the Arizona sophomore center leave campus this week to spend two weeks at home in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, but starting June 1 he'll get a chance to train just an hour away with the Ukrainian national under-20 team.

After that, all but certain to make the team, Natyazhko is likely to play in a five-day tournament in Turkey, then come home for more training, and wind up in Croatia for the European Under 20 Championships in July.

UA coach Sean Miller said the competition will be beneficial for the developing big man, who began his freshman year as a starter but slid downward in the rotation as the season progressed.

"Playing games is healthy for all of our players, but especially for a frontcourt player like Kyryl who didn't play 30 minutes (in any game) as a freshman," Miller said. "I know he's really excited about it and that's part of a young player's improvement, when they have these opportunities they're really happy and excited about. I think he'll really benefit from doing that."
