The only issue I have is that once again MLB is looking to take a wide spread problem and place it all on the back of one player. Ryan Braun and his people killed a guys reputation and had him fired in attempt to lie his way out of a steroid suspension. Now he gets to sit out the remainder of a horrible Brewers season and then come back and collect the bulk of his remaining contract. Arod is not a saint but he's not the only guy that did steriods. He's not the only guy who lied, bought off witnesses and interfered with investigations. If I saw evidence that baseball was actually trying to clean up the problem in their sport I would feel differently. All I see is a witch hunt involving Arod and possibly a small percentage of players. If you really want to clean things up you put the hammer down with more strict testing and harsher penalties.

...^^^ I think that both MLB and the MLBPA really are trying to do something and they are currently trying to remedy a bad situation that was allowed to go on for too long. Many of the players have been very vocal about their feelings on PEDs penalties and in a way, are actually doing Selig's bidding by condemning ARod and the others and are helping to lay the groundwork for future penalties.
...I agree that Braun got off easy, but in a way, I think in retrospect, that Bud did it the right way. The way I see it is that Selig cut the initial "deal" with Braun because he was one of the big names and when Braun gave up and capitulated so quickly and easily, it likely scared the others into also taking the suspension without a fight. ARod is the exception because he faces the possibility of losing everything, so he has no choice but to fight it.

...having Braun and the others already dealt with made it easier to focus on ARod and gave credibility to Bosch and the other evidence MLB has compiled...ARod is playing his final games of Baseball right now.

...also, it should be a VERY eventful weekend in Boston. A few Sox players have voiced their displeasure with ARod being allowed to still play...Lackey is one of them and he pitches Saturday...any bets on how many times ARod gets hit this weekend?...or how many times the benches empty?

...I place the over/under @ 3. ...in fact, I may create another thread to take a poll.

Hey 59, I didn't think it was possible, but you are the only person on earth that could finally find a role for Joba. Send the meathead out there with orders to on Friday to drill Pedrosia in the ribs, Saturday, knock the helmet off Big Pappi, and then on Sunday, hit one of the espn announcers in the booth. If he survives any of the bench clearing brawls that would follow, we DFA him on monday... Finally Joba has a defined roll on this team.

I hope so. This team could use a wild bench clearing brawl.

Well, this story is not going to make A-RAT any more friends. Can't wait for A-RAT to turn government witness and rat out everyone he knows in a scorched earth policy. Wish he had access to that initial 100 names to share with us. LMAO

I am ignorant when it comes to how the players association votes on issues. Are they voted on by all players in the union or by the team union reps only. Selig decides to pass on banning Arod so people like Showalter cry that the Yankees can rebuild if they get out of his contract. So he is offered a suspension and chose to appeal. Now some of the players are crying that it is unfair that he gets to play. Well ball player did you vote to give a player appeal process if so shut up. In the case of Lackey where does that fat slug come in as a paragon of virtue. Didn't he divorce his spouse because she had cancer. Hey there's a good team mate for you. I like many others want the game cleaned up but in a manner that is fair to all concerned.

...the really sad thing is, whenever the arbitrator sees all the evidence vs ARod, even if he wanted to, he can't levy an even stiffer penalty than the one Selig issued...the arbitrator can only uphold the suspension as it stands now, or reduce it.

    ...what a shame.

...certainly not used to pulling for the Sox and certainly not a fan of Lackey's but I'd love to see Lackey (the mouth breather) drill ARod with his first pitch to him, be warned by the Ump and the next time up, drill ARod with the first pitch again, be ejected for doing so, and then walk off the field to a standing ovation. If this happens, I'll be standing and clapping too.

I'm with you 59, but I'd prefer any other member of the Sox staff doing that instead. I hope Lackey gets smashed in the face with a line drive - scumbag filed for divorce from his wife when she had cancer. It doesn't get any lower than that.

As Chubby Checker once sang " How low can you go". It was brought up also on MLB Now that members of the '02 Angels were on that Mitchell report, the whol bit stinks but as I saw you once post Vette , Arod is like Pig Pen just a dirt magnet. I'd love to know what his Yankee Team Mates really think.

...well, like I said, "I'm certainly not a fan of Lackey's" ...but where ARod is concerned, I don't care if the devil himself is pitching for Boston as long as ARod gets his just deserts.

Thats a great point 59. Maybe if arbitrator had power to add games to what the punishment handed down is if he deemed appropriate there would be less of these appeals as the players would also have skin in the game
