<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Ron Artest tells interviewer Bernard Goldberg on tonight's edition of HBO's "Real Sports" that he plans to retire from the NBA in two or three years.

Then what? Among other things, Artest says he wants to try professional boxing.

"Are you telling me you think you could've taken Ben Wallace?" Goldberg asks.

Artest: "I won't fight him on the court, but if he wants to fight organized, pay per view, no riot, nothing crazy, just a fight ? "

And of course HBO would televise it.</div>

Was Artest being serious about retiring in a few years, or was he joking?

What makes you so sure he's joking?

I like Ron Artest and Ben Wallace. This is a stupid thing to discuss, but Ben Wallace would be the crap out of Ron Artest. Just look at the size and strength of the two, when compared together.

Yeah I also think Ben Wallace would romp on Ron-Ron, but I hope that he was joking about the retirement thing.

I really think Ron Artest could do anything he wanted once he retired.

    Boxing?

    It`s a no-brainer.

Interesting. One thing I noticed is that Artest has long arms which can be good or bad for a boxer depending on how he likes to box [IMG]

I don't think Artest was joking about retiring in a few years. When he said it, he had a completely straight face. And he has said it in the past as well. He also said that if the Pacers win a championship this year, he'll definitely retire. I'm kind of surprised it's not a bigger story, actually.

Kendall Gill is a pretty good boxer. Artest would also probably be a good Boxer also. I think Ben would destroy Artest. Ben is a beast, Artest has no chance.

    This is not funny.

Why can't the man just play the game of basketball. There are plenty of basketball players who have shown versatility in various areas, but they all wait until they are retired (or the offseason) before they talk about it.

Why can't he promote his music and boxing career at a time when it won't affect his team and the organization? Now the GM has to think about whether they want to trade him so they don't get nothing for him if he seriously retires in three years.

    Nonsense.

You kiddin me? Artest weighs 20 lbs more than Wallace, so there goes Wallace's alleged strength advantage. And on top of that, his dad was a boxer, he'd lay the smackdown on Big Ben.

Well you've never watched boxing. How is 20 pounds automatically a strength advantage? Tyson used to beat the ish out of guys 25+pounds heavier then him. Boxing takes agility not just pure mass, take a look at the Ali/Foreman fight.
