Any Warrior with plans for the afternoon was simply out of luck Thursday.

Following an ugly loss to New Jersey, the Warriors convened in Oakland for a two-hour team meeting and film session, went through a full-length practice and emerged nearly four hours later to discuss a day that -- according to them -- achieved any of the following:

-- Gave everyone a chance to air their feelings.

-- Made certain players and coaches were on the same page.

-- Offered mostly generalizations and nothing eye-opening.

Those were the disparate answers put forth by the Warriors when asked to describe their impromptu summit, which grew out of a planned film session by coach Mike Montgomery.

Nah, they'll suprise a few teams later this year when the season is wrapping up like last year. Remember when we beat the Kings and ruined their playoff berth spot? Fans went ape sh-- like they had finally made the playoffs. "We beat the kings! We beat the kings! Stop the presses!" Actually that game and the last game of the year with beating Dallas was a great game with Brian Cardinal tossing the ball full court in victory celebration. But in retrospect, with the offseason intending to finally change the direction of the team, it's kind of sad how we ended up worse than even last year.... Yeah, yeah new coach, some new additions, a lot of subtractions but it's sad that Dampier, NVE, and Cardinal and even Avery Johnson were some crucial pieces needed to win on the court and off the court. Remember when our energy level just went to crap when Murphy came back and took minutes away from Cardinal? And then when we had Pietrus in there when Dun was forced to play guard because all three of our point guards went to the IL? It made up for it some increase in energy... but still we need those components that make us play more like a team with either talent or more heart/hustle and consistent contribution. We need the inside presence, the outside shooting from wing players, power forwards need to stop chucking perimeter shots and start taking it in more or posting up and they also need to put a body on somebody so we can get the team to rebound. They just don't play as a team, box out, set screens well, pass well, shoot well, play in the post, because our guys that we lost did a lot of that role playing. The team really needs to help each other be better. It seems like Murphy is playing for stats or something or he's really pressing to do the work because there's nobody even close to his talent level or Jrich's in setting the tone. What sucks is we need the defense inside though, better screens, better floor spacing and awareness and we got these big dummies just clogging up the middle and not making it so other guys can do their job for once... I mean even Dunleavy has a legit excuse for poorly set screens or guys getting in his way at times. Let's hope the team play gets better next year and not this year, because we don't want to end up with the #11 pick again.
