Just play around and see what looks best.

Find what you want to make a pattern, then go to Edit > Define Pattern.

(Trench)How did you make the pattern used in all the new banners? Like the ASG ones and the new team forum ones.

You just create a small canvas, say 5x5 pixels or somthing, then just experiment with the Pencil Tool, making different patterns like lines and such, then go to Edit > Define Pattern to save it to the pattern sections. Or you can just go to www.deviantart.com and download Patterns.

That helps, but i should have phrased my question diferently. What was the pattern that you used? Like how could i make one similar?

EDIT: Something is jacked up on my text. Like the size that used to be 18, is now almost the size that is 3. Has this ever happened to you? And how do i change it back?

EDIT:What should i save a wallpaper as?

I find patterns from everywhere. Other designs, images, scans, etc.. I find the patterns I like then follow NT's steps to define a pattern. I've saved quite a few patterns for my personal use just by collecting what I like over the web.

My text does that occasionally too, I'm not sure what causes this, but I think it might have somthing to do with the dimensions of the canvas, or its possibly a glitch relating to that. Just close the program down to get it back to normal (although it wont change on your saved .psd's)

I (and most designers) save wallpapers as .jpeg

Trench, can you send me a psd to one of the newer banners? Any of the team banners or an allstar banner is fine, i just want to see what you did with the pattern. Either PM or here is fine.

What is the highest quality i can save a signature as, while still being ok for use?

Wow Notorious, you're really getting into making graphics aren't ya. Keep at it, you're improving like crazy.

Whad do you mean?

Um... how come for Windmill it says Design Team Member under his usertitle and not for me?

What are some tips to making a banner? Can someone answer the question this time, i dont care if your not on the GFX team, just if you have tips.

Pretty much. Big titles, sites love big titles of their names. You need to catch a guest's attention in the matter of 2 seconds.

The banner of the site almost shows the professionalism of the site.

It's basically the intro of the site, if the banner is ugly and busy then what does the viewer going to think of the rest of the site?

The old saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" gets thrown out the window when it comes to the internet. Everything is about eyecandy.

Something clean, direct to the point is always a good way to go.

Try to stray away from all the filters and blending options as you can. Use them sparingly.

ESPN's banner is nice, clean and straight to the point. No BS kiddy stuff. And that shows the reader that the site is a legit site.

IMO if you get too caught up with the graphics on the banner, then the site just looks too playfull and may draw back adult members.
