<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It was another day of questions about defense, one-liners from interim coach Frank Hamblen and curious comments from Chucky Atkins as the Lakers closed out their home schedule Sunday against Dallas. Atkins was asked another seemingly simple question about what qualities he would look for in the Lakers' next coach and offered another interesting answer. "We just need a coach that's going to stand by his word," Atkins said, "and be tough on everybody." Atkins seemed to imply that Rudy Tomjanovich had backed out on the team by resigning at midseason for health reasons. He also seemed to imply that some Lakers players received preferential treatment. It was Atkins who caused a stir three Sundays ago when, asked what he would do as general manager to remake the Lakers this offseason, shot back with: "I ain't no GM. Ask Kobe. He's the GM. It's his team." Atkins also was asked about the Lakers' struggles this season, and he said: "We had games where we didn't know each other from a can of paint." Hamblen said he never stopped to consider that Sunday could be his last game at Staples Center. He spent five years as an assistant to Phil Jackson before taking over for Tomjanovich in early February. Hamblen, 10-27 as head coach, did say that he thought he made the right decision by accepting the job instead of turning down general manager Mitch Kupchak. "Not everybody has a chance to have the worst record in history for being a Laker coach," Hamblen quipped. "I guess I'll always be a trivia question." Hamblen said addressing their defensive woes should be the Lakers' No. 1 priority this summer, particularly in the backcourt. The team is 7-40 when it gives up 100 or more points, as against Dallas on Sunday. "It's something that you have to emphasize all the time, starting in training camp," Hamblen said. "But you also have to have guys who are good defenders; you have to have guys who are willing to play defense.</div> Source
I don't think he will be back here next year. He has a huge mouth on him for someone who doesn't do jack, get him out of here.
Hamblen did what he could do with what he had. Atkins isn't a bad shot, but gawd damn his defense is TERRIBLE. It's frustrating to see when they make him defend players like A.I.. Think it's time for him to find a new team..
Atkins wants HONESTY? Atkins you cannot handle HONESTY. This is the 3rd farfetched excuse he has come up with now. Atkins just needs to worry about Atkins. He needs to be the veteran leader and take some accountability for the lame season the Lakers have had. To be brutally honest, this team flat out sucks and Chucky is a big reason why.
Crapkins can't handle anything. I can't stand him, he thinks that he's a lot better then he actually is. Little man is one sorry excuse for a PG, he can't play on either side of the court. Get this loud mouth fish looking thing outta here!
