A steal for Atlanta, ha. They got screwed if anything. I think this for a couple reasons. First, with trading Jackson for Harrington, they get a career 6th man. To top it off, an inconsistent career 6th man. He's likely going to be a starter in Atlanta for the first time in his career and that will be a change of pace for him. The other reason, they drafted two small forwards in Smith and Childress. This is the main reason why this makes no sense to me. They have two young players who are going to need playing time, especially Smith, to develop. By bringing over Harrington, it could likely take away the starting job from either of them. So, in that aspect, it makes no sense. Plus, it's not like Atlanta is going to make the playoffs anytime soon, so, why not play the rookies. Give them time to get better and who knows, in a few years you could have potential superstars on your hands and a team ready to make a playoff run. But, by doing this, you hurt their chances, especially Smith's, of developing. Rookies need playing time to get better, and by bringing over Harrington, they could each likely lose some amount of playing time. This is why they get screwed.

Indiana, on the other hand, gets the good end of this deal. They get an athletic swing man who can shoot the ball. Last season, they didn't have a lot of people who could just flat out shoot the ball. Stephen Jackson can. He's going to be very good for this team and will give them another option offensively. It will also allow them to move Reggie Miller to the bench and it will give them a phenomenal front court with Tinsley, Jackson, and Artest. So, this really works out well for them.

Overall, my thought on this trade, Indiana got something they needed in an athletic swingman who can shoot and Atlanta got something they didn't need and possibly a risk also. They don't know how Harrington is going to adjust to a starting role. He could be a total flop as a starter. If this happens, it's not big deal due to the fact they have Childress and Smith, but, it's a thought. But, in the end, Atlanta does not need Harrington. They have two young small forwards who need minutes and by picking up Harrington, they could likely be losing minutes unless one plays shooting guard, that one likley being Childress. If that happens, Smith can get more minutes at small forward.

I love Josh Smith just as you, but I'm not sure about him making an impact. He still needs to improve on a lot. Athletic freak, sure, but there's parts of his game that are weak. Jay Bilas said it correctly when he said that Josh Smith is nothing without his left hand, meaning that Josh Smith mainly plays lefty and never uses his right. If he adjusts to his right, he would be a much better player. Also, needs to work on a consistent shot from range. He can hit the 3, but it's not that consistent for him. He needs to work on that and he will get even better.

May make a run, but I doubt making playoffs. I'm starting to become an Atlanta fan, moreso of a Jason Terry fan, but grabbing Smith and Childress really helps them out. Childress helps out more because he can play the 2 which means Terry will run point which is a better position for him I think than playing SG. And I don't see anything wrong with taking Al Harrington. Sure you have Josh Smith but not many people expect him to come right off of the bat and make an imediate impact. I'd like to see it happen, but it just won't. Al is a better player. He started a few games last season when Ron was out with headaches and his finger and such but it's going to be a bit difficult I think for him to adjust.

Indiana did a good job on this trade though. It's hard to give up good, young talent like that. I'm sure they are going to miss what Harrington brought to them off of the bench as their 6th man, maybe should have been 6th man of the year, but they get a very nice player in return. Stephen Jackson is a good, athletic player. Swingman who can play either the 2 or 3 and has a good shot. One question though, does this mean Jackson will startover Reggie at the 2? Or will Jackson be comming off of the bench. I, personally, think Jackson will be starting.

Overall, I thought both teams worked out in this trade. Only thing for ATL that they might need to worry about is Harrington adjusting to being a starter.

Just for the record, this is a steal for the Hawks because they were going to lose Jackson to Free Agency. Harrington was a hot comodity, and to get him for seemingly free is a great steal. And yes, it is for free, because Jackson was leaving and they would've gotten nothing for him. If the Hawks can sign Martin they got a pretty good squad.

Interesting deal on the Pacers part, I guess this spells the end of the career of Reggie Miller. Jackson moves to the 2, with Artest at the 3, thats a solid 2-3 punch there, to go along with O'Neal.

    PG Jamaal Tinsley
    SG Stephen Jackson
    SF Ron Artest
    PF Jermaine O'Neal
    C Jeff Foster

    PG Jason Terry
    SG Josh Childress
    SF Al Harrington
    PF Kenyon Martin
    C Jason Collier?

Man i'm loving the Gams in atl finally.

I'm happy they are trying to improve our squad.

The only thing i can say is keep doing what they are doing.

I mean i know atl might be hard to get stars to commit to stay here but i at least like to see or at the least here atl trying to make deals to improve the squad here.

Come on Atl lets see what yiou can do.

    JT, Sura, Person
    Harrington, collier
    Kenyon Martin?
