The two are producing in the playoffs just like they did with the Rangers. And they only got Etem for Hagelin... Ouch. That deal was a total bust
No, it wasn't a bust. They used that pick to get Gropp who is an outstanding power forward prospect. Amazingly, the morons haven't traded him yet. You don't pay 4 million to a guy who was averaging 30 points a year like Hagelin. 2 plus million to a 4th line center in Boyle. Hagelin was so bad Anaheim gave him away quickly. They didn't want him. Boyle hasn't done crap all playoffs. He should have been in the penalty box instead of scoring the winning goal. Rangers then used Etem to get Jensen and a 3rd rounder in 2017. Last time I checked our recent third round picks were Buchnevich, Duclair, Tambellini, Kovacs and Zborovskiy. Of that group still here I would say Buchnevich, Kovacs and Zborovskiy all will be part of the future of this team. Tambellini is a good dark horse. I wouldn't give up on Jensen either. He has the skills. He's a long shot though
Hagelin had 26 points in 73 playoffs games which is not worth near 4 million. Boyle has 19 points in 58 playoff games for the Rangers which sucks for 2 million a year. You're overreacting as usual. Hagelin has been on a fluke hot streak with Pitt. He's simply not very good offensively. Fast is averaging .3 PPG in the playoffs. Hagelin average .36 for us. In other words, he wasn't worth the money. Neither was Boyle. Neither was Callahan.
Hags wasn't getting resigned here for $4 mil so getting anything in any type of deal was better than just letting him walk for nothing. Boyle was one of their more consistent postseason players and great on faceoffs, I agree they should have resigned him instead of throwing more money at his less talented brother.
I was a big Brian Boyle fan in his last year here because AV used him correctly, but you guys are forgetting that he left the team because he said he wanted an expanded role. There are numerous quotes out there from AV, etc. that we would have been open to having him back in a similar role, but he wasnt interested in that and he even said as much. He left to go to a team that would give him a chance to play in the top 9 at 3C. We saw Brian Boyle as the 3C here under Torts and it was an absolute disaster. If you guys think Hayes is slow and lumbering for AV's system I can only imagine the whine fest that would follow as Boyle gets passed by defenseman on the rush up the ice in AV's system. And dont forget he lost the 3C job in Tampa last year after about a month; he only recently started playing there again. Again, I'm a big Boyle fan but absolutely not in the top 9 which is what he wanted. Fine with letting him walk. And Hags...come on. Again, love the guy, but he is not worth anywhere close to the contract he signed. If he wasnt playing with Kessel we wouldnt even be talking about him.
Simply..................B.Boyle and Hagelin are surrounded by more talented players on their perspective teams...........something that did not exist on this Ranger team.
They were excellent role players. The problem with the Rangers is simple. They were morons and traded away picks and prospects for go for it now deals which didn't work. They gave out way too many NTC's and they have too many overpaid, fat cats on their roster. They need a partial housecleaning.
Simple to many roll players and a couple of overpaid vets in the decline. Throw in a underachieving superstar and there ya go.
