After numerous veteran contract extensions the BC Lions Football Club began assembling its training camp roster by announcing today that import running back Keegan Herring and import receiver Will Cole have inked contracts with the team. Both Herring and Cole will begin their efforts to crack a solid Lions line-up when rookie camp gets under way in Kamloops, BC on Thursday, June 2nd. Herring played in 47 games at Arizona State including 14 starts during his four-year career as a Sun Devil. In 2005, he broke ASU's freshman rushing record with 870 yards on 158 carries and was named to the PAC-10's All Freshman squad. A threat to score from anywhere on the field, the Arizona native had five rushing touchdowns in 2007, three of which came on runs of 70+ yards and another on a 46-yard dash. He finished his career as the 16th player in school history to surpass 2,000 career rushing yards and sits eighth on ASU's all-time career rushing list with 2,635 rushing yards on 511 carries to go along with 20 touchdowns. Cole comes to the Lions after a two year stint at Oklahoma State. The highly regarded high school standout from Dallas suffered a season ending injury prior to his sophomore season in 2008 and then surrendered a year of eligibility in transferring to North Texas in 2009. He did not see the field in 2010. Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono also announced that defensive back Daylan Walker and defensive lineman Richard Jones have been released.
