So, http://abcnews.go.com/US/baltimore-...rged-assault-student-caught/story?id=37518067 Interesting that we are not seeing more outrage about this. I am not trying to race bait, but if these cops were white, holy shit it would be a serious front page debacle and riots. Edit: I am glad they were caught and prosecuted.
People don't slap like that without some sort of provocation. Maybe the kid is an asshole. Don't get me wrong, the cop should be fired and charged with assault. But the cop slapping the kid doesn't make whatever the kid said or did excusable. Behavior matters.
Spoken like someone who doesn't have kids. Doesn't matter what the kid may or may not have said, you don't slap them. That cop is lucky he's still breathing.
I firmly believe we need a special corp in the military where we send animals like this dude, to be on standby reading to serve when needed. Pick an Island dedicated to base this corp from which they are never discharged. The is no rehabilitation for a brute, the debt can never be retired. When we go for ISS they make the re-con probe.
Some people just shouldn't have a badge. I understand the stresses of the work. Im in law enforcement. But part of the job is not letting shit get to you. You certainly dont escalate a situation from verbal to physical. I get verbal threats all day at work, and I laugh at everyone of them.
Wow! He slapped the crap out of that kid. And it does piss me off that there is no outrage from the black community like there would be if it was a white cop.
I don't see how Wook was in any way justifying the slap. All he said that it was likely provoked, and that it might be interesting to know what it was that provoked it. To answer your initial question of "does it matter?"; in regard to whether or not the beating was OK--no, it does not. But it would give some insight into how deplorable this guy is.
And while some of you want to sit here and say that you're upset because there's no public outrage because the cop is black. Well that would be a short-sighted view. When you see us protest it's because the cop very likely has NOT been charged or has been acquitted. This officer has been charged. Arbitrarily choosing the officer's race as the reason why we aren't protesting is not only a form of race baiting, it flies in the face of common sense. People protest injustice. The shit's been handled. WTF do we need to be outraged for? He's being charged...
They were just slow, soft slaps staged for display. The egotistical punk is probably a future conservative, not liberal, so a little discipline will make him humble for a few minutes.
I remember a dozen future Republican high school hot shots who could have benefited from some humbling. But then, if the kid's a future Democratic leader, he needs his courage encouraged, so I'm on the kid's side.
I was going to agree until I remembered the media is controlled by a bunch of rich white ass holes, and even if there was outrage, they could just simply be choosing not to cover it to further the racial tensions they've been pushing the last couple years.
The situation didn't escalate to the point where people needed to take to the streets and protest. The officer, and the other officer who stood there and watched, were both arrested and charged with battery. What the people who do protest in the streets ask for is that the cops get arrested and charged. So no point, it was done swiftly and dutifully. If anything, we might question whether if it were a white officer if he'd have been arrested and charged like this.
I would think so but before an investigation could be done there would be rioting. Instant gratification generation.
The cynic in me half-expects a protest on behalf of the officer because he's been charged so quickly, while white officers who have been caught on camera doing worse have not.
