<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Somehow Brent Barry's right hand got entangled in the shorts of an opposing player last night, and now the Sonics are faced with an uncertain future without their co-captain, who coach Nate McMillan refers to as the glue keeping the team together. After the 118-116 defeat to Dallas, Barry was diagnosed with a fractured ring finger on his shooting hand. He did not accompany the team to Los Angeles last night and will be examined by a hand specialist today to determine how long he will need to recover. </div> <font size="1">Full Story by Percy Allen of the Seattle Times.</font> Bad news for Seattle, this guy is the glue and his presence will be missed more than one would think. On the bright side this will allow rookie Luke Ridnour and in-form Antonio Daniels more minutes, but it's hardly ideal for a team chasing a playoff berth in the West.
that sucks...but then AD can prove himself more...and maybe Luke can show his talents [again] this year...

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crossover:</div><div class="quote_post">Poor baby. A whole 5-6 weeks for something so minor.</div> Dude I love ya, but that is a damn ignorant comment. A) It is on his shooting hand, which means it needs to be fully healed before he can shoot the ball and be effective. It also means he has to pull out of the three-point shooting comp, and he has to sit through possibly the most vital five weeks of Seattle's season as they fight (a losing battle?) to stay in touch with the playoff race. Not only do Seattle lose one of their most vital players, through both his play and his leadership, they lose it at such a vital time. It also means he will be out past the trade deadline, which decreases his value if Seattle do want to trade him. I know you consider yourself tough, and good on you, but when basketball is your job, a broken finger on your shooting hand isn't exactly something 'minor'.
Just do like my mom would do - straighten it, wipe it down good with alcohol, take a strong piece of cloth, and tied and really tight. He'd be able to play again in less than 2 weeks. Ratliff and Iverson have both played with broken fingers and never complained about it. Hell, Ratliff did this season.
Barry just had surgery to straighten out the finger. I doubt there's any need for him to try and play through it just to be tough, he's only got a couple of years left at the top level as it is.
This is terrible, one he's a starter for the Sonics. Plus he's a shooter, every part of his hands and digits are essential. Hope he gets better soon, the Sonics are inconsistent and not as good as many of the other teams as it is.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Crossover:</div><div class="quote_post">How old is he now?</div> In his thirties and in the last year of a deal, plus his knees aren't 100%.
