Ordinarily, I wouldn't watch the early Premiership game as the match-up is usually a lopsided encounter or features two of the Premiership's more modest outfits. Today, however, I decided to watch three of my countrymen (McBride, Reyna, Bocanegra) in action...but came away admiring the exploits of a certain Joey Barton. Of course, I've known of Joey Barton's midfield work, cigarstubbing antics, and behind-baring postgame extracurriculars. Today, however, left me thinking only of Joey Barton's potential as an England midfielder. On current form, surely he must be in the reckoning for an England call-up? I've only watched 45 minutes of the match so far, but truly...an impressive opening 45 for Mr. Barton. He's had a role to play in all three goals (link-up pass, assist, and goal) and has looked superb in the midfield. Fulham have not had any opportunity to gain a foothold of the midfield, and that's been in large part due to Barton's fantastic 2-way work. So really, when's Joey Barton going to get his England call-up?
I'd love to see Barton and Parker kick Gerrard and Lamps out of the England squad, on current form they should be doing just that. However we know its never going to happen so no point dwelling.
I'd love to see Barton in the England squad but as long as he leaves his temper behind, imagine taking him to da euros and doin wot he did the other week to a key player like Rooney or Terry then we'd be even more stuffed than we already r with a full squad
Barton would be a decent add to the England squad with Lampard and Gerrard on the bench.. but it is doubtful because of Lampard's and Gerrard's reputation through out the world.
Yea, the england squad is always picked on reputation, doesnt matter that Lampard and Gerrard were below par this season, they will walk into the England squad.
