Battier Hopes Team Keeps Up Intensity

The Rockets are off to a 4-2 start. That may surprise some who predicted the Rockets to struggle with the team missing Yao Ming for the entire season and a knee injury which has kept Tracy McGrady out of action for an extended time. Shane Battier says an important key for the Rockets is to not lose any of the humility that has marked their solid start.

"You have to handle success and adversity with the same amount of determination," Battier told the Houston Chronicle. "The tendency is, especially when you had success early on, to take it for granted and not play as hard.

"I was telling some of the guys today we have to keep our edge of a team that is fighting for every scrap, every inch, every game. Here at practice, we can't afford to be fat cats and coast. We have to have that edge, and it's tougher to do when you win a few. You go around town, and everyone is patting you on the back, telling you how wonderful you are.
