"I'm not going to be able to eat for a few days," McLeod said - well, mumbled - after the Jazz's 90-84 loss to the Grizzlies on Sunday. "I can't open my mouth."
That's because Shane Battier closed it with his skull. McLeod scooped up a loose ball early in the fourth quarter and raced for a fast-break basket, only to have Battier arrive and break it up. Battier accidentally jumped into McLeod's chin, opening a cut on the top of his head that required stitches to close.
McLeod fell hard to the floor, and feared his jaw was broken. He was helped to the bench, and the Grizzlies' team doctors took X-rays after the game, but found no break.
What galled McLeod most, however, was that the play was ruled an offensive foul on McLeod. Battier "didn't even turn around until we hit," McLeod complained in disgust. </div>
